Irish spec..

Featured Replies

Back in the old days it used to be  not uncommon for us here in "the north" to take a little trip over the border to purchase a car - its still not uncommon to see an Opel on NI plates though this is mainly older vehicles.  I'm led to believe the trend has reversed somewhat though and it now can be cheaper to purchase up here than down south.  Whether any of this is/was strictly legal and all the relevant taxes and duties were paid I have no idea.  We are talking the days before all the digital systems were joined up after all.

I suppose there's likely to be more supply of UK spec cars and so theoretically more potential for discounts on vehicles in stock.  As someone suggested above buying nearly knew might be an option - I have a friend who saved a fortune on a VW Polo because it was an ex VW UK management vehicle with very limited mileage and only 6 months old.  Might also result in higher insurance though as its not ROI spec?

Chin up though, you still have cheaper petrol and diesel down there I believe, not to mention Supermacs!!!

Actually, I just remembered this.  My own Skoda dealer (the biggest in NI and just of the M1) has a specific page for ROI residents!  It might be worth giving them a call and seeing what you can work out.
