Lane Assist

Question 4  (last one for now)

The Lane Assist is not operational.  It was fixed just before I bought the car but has gone again after I've had the car for a couple of weeks.  Does this point to system problems on my car or is Lane Assist often unreliable?

I really like the feature as I do 100 miles a day mainly on motorways.  I've only got 6 months left on warranty and don't want this to be an ongoing issue that I will be landed a bill for when the warranty expires.

Given the fact that it's been fixed once already (what were the symptoms, and what was done to fix it?),  then I'd suggest they haven't fixed it properly, probably they've simply reset it.

The only thing you can do is to keep taking it back.  If they aren't able to confirm that they've replaced parts or applied a software fix, then tell them to keep it until they've properly identified and rectified the fault.

Thanks.

The fault was repaired by the owner before me.  All I know was the it was a fault with the Lane Assist but not what the specific fault was.  Will get them to give it a full checkover and request they look at what the previous fault was as it should be on their central records I would hope.

When you say it is not operational, do you mean it never sees the lane markings on the road, or just loses them from time to time?

The feature uses a camera on the dashboard to detect the lane edges, and if the lane markings are indistinct, it can lose them for a time, and then recover when the markings become clear again. You also need to be driving at over 40 mph or so. On my present Golf SV, the feature works well most of the time, but there are occasions when it can't see the lanes and stops working for a time.
