FIRST 1500 MILES IN MY NEW SPORTLINE

Featured Replies

Overall it has been a wondefull experience and I have to say Skoda have designed an even better car than my previous Yeti's although I do have a few minor niggles as follows,

Not enough USB ports ,one in this day & age is simply not good enough ,three , as shown in the hand book which came with the car, should be provided.

Sun roof ,unlike the Yeti ,you cannot close the sun screen section while the actual roof is open , I have tried playing with the controls but nothing seems to work.

Front windscreen wipers ,when washing car unable to lift these into a held upright position while wipers are in parked position under the bonnet area. This has to be a design fault.

Skoda connect , have used this precisely once since buying the car & feel it is a total waste of money .

Body shape ,unlike the Yeti ,especially my first one with the  distinctive rounded shape, the Karoq is very bland to look at even in my Sportline version ,and is very similar in shape & style to other VG group cars.

As I say niggles rather than real bones of contention and set against the cars comfort, trim levels and the engines sheer brute power ,they pale into insignificance. The canton sound system is excellent ,coupled with the ability to play DVD's and I have my entire music collection of over 6.500 tracks permanently stored on an SD card ,which lives in the car ,to choose from.

The sat nav. works a treat, and how on earth have I "survived" until now without a reversing camera & electric boot lid ,love them both ! Have not used the park assist yet ,but got this mainly for the years ahead when old age starts to take it's toll and makes head movements etc. more difficult when parking.

SWMBO also loves driving it even though she still hates the colour ,Velvet Red, as apparently it doesn't match the house colour when parked up on the drive ,must say I didn't think of this when I chose it ,enough said !

So far a 9.5 out  of 10 ,and meanwhile look forward to many happy years of Karoq motoring.

What has the mpg/range per 50 litre fill been so far because I'm considering this engine to replace wife's 67 plate Karoq SEL 1.5TSi manual which does 43mpg overall or 480 miles per tank. TIA shy.

If you turn the ignition on then off and flick the wiper stalk down the wipers go into the maintenance position same as the Yeti.

Thanks for the tips about the wipers, and based on filling up so far we are returning a tad under 30 MPG but you must bear in mind since moving to Norfolk most of our trips are only 5-10 miles long ,which is one of the reasons why we switched from diesel to petrol. On this basis a full tank should give a range in the region of 325 - 340 + miles but of course it is still early days in terms of the engine bedding down and churning out long term economy numbers that can be relied on. Must confess this was not a factor for me when chosing the Sportline as I was more interested in it's performance eg 0-62 in 7 seconds etc.

Trust this helps.

The Fabia and Octavia do the same to get the wipers into the maintenance position.

I really like the velvet red but I'm a tad biased. Decorate the house to work with the new car colour 😊

Good to read such a positive report. May well have gone for one of those, given the 1.5 TSI problems, if it hadn't been for the panoramic sun roof being forced on me.

I agree with you xocognac, the single USB port is inadequate in this day and age.

I also agree with you regarding the sunroof blind (I have the Scout version).  I like having the sunroof just tilted open but when it is and the sun is shining (!) the sun shines through the gap between blind and frame onto the front seat occupants and is annoying.  My wife and I both wear glasses and the sun causes reflections on the inside of our lenses.  I have been thinking of getting some aftermarket tinted stick-on film to cover the inside of the sunroof glass, the latter, in its standard form, I feel is insufficiently  tinted to stop the sun glare.

The service position for the wipers is pointless, the paint on the bonnet will still get chipped, either by the hand carwash, or someone putting a a leaflet / parking ticket under your wipers.

The lack of USB ports is a UK issue, all other countries managed to spec their models properly with two or more ports.

Another genius decision by Skoda UK.

If you don't use the 12V accessory socket you could buy one of these, most are flush fitting now too which means you can still close the compartment cover...

We are yet to use our standard rear UK spec picnic tables after nearly 19 months.:tongueout:

How is the 2.0 tsi engine? Can you also add some pictures with the car?😊

I find the 2.0 ltr TSI engine excellent with more than enough power throughout all gear changes and the acceleration when you kick down in the 30-50 mph is insane & it must be said great fun . My only criticism is the very slight delay in the power kicking in at the lowest of rev's which is probaly due in no small measure to my caution when pressing the accelerator ,but having come from a 2.00ltr diesel background this might also be clouding my judement on this point. It certainly doesn't stop me recomending this particular engine & gearbox (7 speed DSG) combo. I have also "played " at being Lewis Hamilton using the paddle gear change but find the DSG box is more relaxing for everyday motoring.

It is however still very early days  & we are yet to do a long motorway run , Norfolk as you may know ,doesn't have any which probably explains the sheer number of mobile speed traps in the county to catch out frustrated mortorists trying to drive at a steady 30 mph but sometimes having the audacity to slide up to 33 or 34 mph , but I'm sure this is a common complaint in lots of other rural areas.

Trust this assists you Gabi4 & I might post some photo's later in the year but to be honest  this is not top of my "to do" list currently  as i'm not a member of the Instagram generation .

Does this 2.0tsi use the new Budack cycle?

Edit: Just saw an announcement that a 4wd Karoq will be introduced in Australia. No time frame and they don't know whether to use the 140tsi or the 140tdi.
We use Kw values here by the way.

When I bought my 2.0 tdi, the Sportline was not available. Thanks for sharing the good thoughts about the 2.0 Tsi. Unfortunately, this variant doesn't come with heated steering wheel option, so I couldn't have chosen it.

About Instagram, me neither, but some pictures make as 1000 words :))) Is it black??

I'm afraid do not have a clue about my engine using the Budack cycle to operate the valves , and with regard to heated steering wheels ,having lived in London for over 60 years & now next to the coast have not really felt a need for one of these and suspect if I lived somewhere colder would rely on a good old fashioned pair of mittens. Likewise rarely use the heated seats unless my back plays up.

My SWMBO ,who is is a bit of a whizz when it comes to Iphone tech ,has taken pity on the old chap (me) and provided a photo of our new Sportline which I enclose as requested .Not sure if this supports her objections to the house/car colour combo but will leave that to other members to decide for themselves !

I don't see what the problem is? The red matches the flowers in the window nicely :)

Predictions from the 2nd Test at Lord's. Honourable draw or are the Aussies going for a Big Bash result in 48 overs?:blush

Sorry not to reply earlier but went to bed at the tea break (during the wee hours here) but was expecting the eventual draw at 46 for 2.

The Archer/Smith phase was brutally gladiatorial but compelling viewing.
