Hi everyone... I was asking myself, what are the differences between 1.6 and 2.0 TDI, do they have some kind of different badging or something?

Apart from the engine size I don't think they have. My 2ltr is a SEL and has 17inch wheels and Chrome strip in the front end but that's all , just the Skoda Octavia on boot 

The 2.0 potentially has the more robust 6spd wet clutch DSG.

No difference on internal or external spec.

 

Manual gearbox is 5 speed on the 1.6TDi and 6 speed on the 2.0TDi

 

Auto gearbox is 7 speed dry clutch DQ200 on the 1.6TDi and 6 speed wet clutch DQ250 on the 2.0TDi.

 

The gearbox difference alone make the 2.0TDi a better option.

Doesn't the 2.0 have bigger brakes? 🤔

Agree, coming from a fellow torsion beam + 18inch wheel driver.  

 

Why doesn't Skoda put engine size badging on their cars? When seeing other Skoda's, it's always impossible to work out that is under the bonnet.

The 4x4 1.6 TDI has a 6 speed manual and IRS which makes it a much better proposition all round than the regular 1.6 but unless you really need all wheel drive, you are much better off with the equivalent 2.0 also with IRS (which the vRS gets) IMO.

4x4 are significantly different both gearbox and suspension from the Standard Octy.

Forgive me but who's question are you answering?  The OP asked what's the difference between the 1.6 and 2.0tdi.  As far as I'm aware (again I may be wrong) both 1.6tdi 4x4 and 2.0tdi 4x4 have the same gearbox and suspension.

Did the OP mention 4x4?

 

Maybe they can clarify.

 

Could even clarify which 2.0TDi.  Hatch, Estate, 4x4, Scout, VRS.

 

With the OP just saying 1.6 vs 2.0 the most common comparison would be the standard 2wd models

I was wanting to know how can you recognise if some car has 2.0 TDI or 1.6 TDI engine under the bonnet. wyx087 understood what I was trying to say... 
So, there aren't any badges that would help you recognise which car has which engine.

Might interest anyone looking to get a new 1.6TDI.
