Skoda fabia vr rear beam polly bushes fitted

Featured Replies

Jst dropd off my fabia at a mate,s garage to get some powerflex bushes fitted on the rear beam. Eny body fitted a set or have pictures/guide how to fit them

Hardly anyone bothers because the standard bushes are already solid and aren't subject to anything like as much force as the front wishbone bushes because the rear end doesn't have to steer, handle traction under power or heavy braking.

Only reason im changin them i had a advisory on mot that ther was play in the bushes. ( i work on a farm so the b roads give the car a hard time). And i got the bushes at cost price. Worth a try i recon.

Well, I've had an advisory in year 1, but not in year 2, without having any work done in the interim

Oh and BTW when did Powerflex start making bushes out of parrot? ;)

Changed plenty of rear beam bushes before now as they go weak and flop about. Really makes the back end twitchy.

Getting the old old ones out is fun. Superpro bushes very easy to fit in their place.

If fitting in situ, as I did, I found some info on a mark IV golf, which is similar to a Fabia Vrs 1.

I fitted the standard rubber ones from dealer, £20? but you will need a bush pressed and threaded bar kit. The polybush ones will just slide in, but from behind , towards the outside of car. The old one needs cutting out with metal drill bit 8mm or bigger then electric saw with metal saw bit around the centre metal centre where bolt goes through. Use hammer to collapse the bush inwards.

Do one side at a time. Shock absorber will need disconnecting at bottom and a new bolt and nut. To allow lowering of axle

Use a 2nd jack under axle to just take weight of axle.

As the axle drops the rubber brake line over / just front of rear axle will stretch. You HAVE to disconnect this using spanner. I used very small rubber bung to seal brake line which is flared and reconnected fine.

This is the bugbear as you have to bleed brakes later.

You might not need to do this with the polybushes as you don't need to fit tooling behind the polybush to press it in. The fuel tank interferes and limits space.

Sorry no pictures as they were taken 2 yes ago

You might want to check operation of rear shocks or consider replacing whilst you are at it. Depending on when they were last done. You are half way to replacement.

Thanx all for your replies bushes fitted took about 3 hrs in all. I did use the guide recomended on here.  Car is a little more precise on the road but my original bushes had obvious signs ov wear.
