Radio not working

Featured Replies

My radio has died again. This happened earlier in the car's life and then it was only happening sporadically. They had it in and gave it a software upgrade. I thought at the time that it possibly had just randomly started working again and sure enough it has stopped and started on a few more occasions but not enough to take it in.

Now it has died completely. The garage now charges £12 a day for a courtesy car, maybe they should drop the word courtesy? The also said there was a £153 investigation charge that would be waived if it was a warranty job, I thought what do you mean if, how could it be anything else?

Is it £12 a day for the car or the insurance ? You could put it on your own policy if it does not already cover courtesy car use

Maybe you should comment to the service manager that instead of offering to potentially charge you £153 maybe they should focus on putting right the repair thsy attempted last time which appears to have been pointless.

Also is a device failure part of the 6 month (if it all falls apart we don't care) warranty? I doubt it is so I would expect a warranty repair as standard.

Have you traced where the fuse is for the radio? Simple steps first.

Also as someone  mentioned the £12 is for insurance. Prove your insurance is equal to what the dealer offers then the courtesy car is free.

The garage has just phoned me and I need all the controls on the steering wheel replaced. It will be done under warranty but they can't get the bits until next Tuesday so it will have to go in again.

Radio died as in the radio module of the infotainment system? I.e., unable to receive any radio signal but everything else works on the infotainment system?

Or has the infotainment totally stopped working as in died? Black screen on infotainment system?

No I just cannot turn it on. The navigation sound works fine.

Funnily enough when I picked the car up today the on/off button on the wheel is working again!

There's obviously something wrong with it somewhere as they wouldn't be replacing it otherwise.

Could be hardware but as you say also they installed software prior.  To me sounds like they made a mess of that task and it's more a case of guesswork fault tracing.

My Columbus had a wobble yesterday in that it wouldn't increase the volume whilst playing from the memory card. The steering wheel controls wouldn't increase the sound either. In the end I took the card out, reinstalled it and everything's fine again now. Odd.
