Oops... Trim clips

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Routed and fitted dash cam and reverse camera wiring today. Unfortunately on removing the left A pillar trim I'm not sure that the clip was actually attached to the trim piece properly, and on sliding it upwards it fell into the abyss of the bodywork with a small tinkle through the uppermost hole.

Much swearing and huffing/puffing later, I will order a replacement clip off eBay, and hope to god that it doesn't rattle. If it does, anyone have ideas on how to retrieve said clip? Does that piece of bodywork extend down into the bottom of the car, or much like the tailgate end in a blind hole?

Cheers!

If you can pin point the location of the clip you might be able to drop a dab of glue onto it. Seen this done before to prevent rattling.

I did consider this, I've also got an endoscope camera so will have a look for it when the replacement trim clip arrives.

So far so good, no rattles thankfully.

Update: Local VW garage could get me a clip, so ordered one and went to put it in

On pulling the trim off, the remaining clip snapped at the stop end - on the inside looked like it had corroded (so me pulling on it the first time probably just weakened it further. I wonder if that's why the other clip somehow fell off.

One clip at the top seems to fix the trim just fine, so that's how it's staying.
