  • Thats a 6v engine that’s why. But it’s the same area.

  • I must admit it was tricky torque was 90nm plus 90 degrees I still had sump off at this time and used a pry bar to jam the gear at the front I know not ideal and was a bit anxious doing it from there

As I said, that arrow is the knock sensor. Just used that photo plus one sentence as I couldn't find a better photo quickly. That's a 6-valve engine in my photo but only the head is very different.

Wino mine looks lightly different to that my plup in connector plugs in from the top and is on with an Allen key bolt and my camshaft sensor is in a different place than that one

Have come to the conclusion that the cranckshaft sensor is a totally nightmare been at it for at least 45 min with a mirror and 5mm hex socket and I have had enough it's so I'm gonna lock the cams in position take chain of as it's out anyway by a tooth then move crank to line up the 2 dots on tdc gonna have a cup of tea and rethink it might of been easier if I had not took engine mounting off and used large lump of wood to hold engine in place on the sump.

Also does sump really need to come off or can you just reseal the front part where timing chain cover goes on?

Also what's the story on the cam cover I take it some of the bolts hold the cams in place there are 21 bolts on the cover. Take it you cant take that of without it being a bit of a nightmare

Why do you want to take the rocker cover off?

Drop it, sealing it otherwise is tricky

I'm losing the will to live. got crank sensor out but for the life of me cant get the locking g tool in the crank hole tried everything feels like the fatter bit of the tool is not going in the crank hole and looks like it's trying to go in at an angle. Have tried moving crank a bit thinking its hitting the crank but still no go anyone had this problem HELP

Plz

The crank locking tool can’t hit the crank, it goes into a slot in the flywheel.

Check the dimensions of the crankshaft locking tool, to make sure it's been made to the right sizes. This one was one I made, copied from measurements of one that had been used successfully on another member's car:

Wino do you have a set of verbier calipers to measure the secumfrance of the 50mm bit plz

The diameter of that bit is 20mm, shown at the top of the pic, not very clearly to be fair.

You can’t measure the circumference with vernier callipers, diameter maybe? Unless you want to calculate the circumference?

and is says 20 mm on the diagrams.

Someone bunked off their D&T lessons!

Use the screwdriver technique Wino suggested to get TDC on dwell then work the crank lock into place while tweaking it.

It is on tdc chain is off as it was a tooth out 2 dots on internal gears lined up cams locked at back been tweaking crank but no luck. The larger secumfrance does not even go in the hole.

Take a pic

Although why you would take the chain off before locking the crank is a bit of a mystery.

As I said it was a tooth out could not get cans to line up so had to take chain off then move cams to lock them then moved crank into position now I just need to lock crank if everything was ok in the first place I would of locked it up with chain on

I see. I would have done the crank, then aligned the cams and slackened the cam pulleys after.

Swings and roundabouts I guess.

The word is circumference but you mean diameter, if the pin won't physically fit into the block then it can't lock the crank and you're going to have to improvise using a drill bit and a spacer or buy the correct sized locking tool.
