Good idea??

Featured Replies

My 190 bhp Mk3 has just done 100,000 miles.  It is about 4 years old. It is set to Variable servicing which kicks in after about 14 - 15 K.  I want to nurse the car a bit to get maximum life out of it.  Question?  Is is a good idea to switch to fixed interval servicing or even do as one guy suggested, change the oil & filter every 6K or is this just a waste of money and let the car decide?  I always use top quality oil and decent (MAN) filters.  I would appreciate the views of you guys please.

The only way to know for sure based on your usage of your vehicle is to have the oil analysed at various mileage intervals - I’d suggest 6000, 10,000 and 14,000 miles - The lab will tell you whether the oil has degraded by any of these points.

You'll get loads of “opinions” in answer to this question but what you need is hard evidence.
