Hidden Sat Nav and how to access phone files

Featured Replies

Hello.

I purchased a 14plate Octavia VRS yesterday that has the Bolero head unit. To my surprise i fount that it had a hidden sat nav feature. I double tap the media button and pioneer sat nav appears, has anyone come across this before? It seems a bit dated and clunky tbh does anyone know if i could upgrade it to a better hidden system ie garmin? Also i have mp3 songs on my phone and updated radio logos from Skoda update im struggling to access these files through USB cable, what root file does the unit use from my phone?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

At a guess, a previous owner has fitted something like the Pioneer AVIC F260.2. I've no idea if other 'hidden' systems are any better but given Amundsen/Columbus retrofits are now well understood, they might be a better option if you want inbuilt satnav.

You should be able to play mp3's from your phone via bluetooth. Trying to use your phone as a USB mass storage device seems an odd way to do it - it'll depend on your phone how to set this up.

Not really played with the radio logos, pretty sure mine are just on an SD card that's always inserted.

So im just better off getting an SD card then and possibly invest in a new head unit. Any reccomended SD cards?

Have a search in here for info on replacing you head unit.  There is a wealth of knowledge that has been repeated a number of times so it should be fairly easy to find.  The short version is you have the older MIB1 system which will require a new screen to go with the unit making it more cost effective to go MIB2 which will give you androidauto/carplay.  Cost in the region of £5-600 upwards depending on what you want.

Or one of these for £180 Android unit

Those two units linked to will not fit a mk3.

What rusty said. The space behi6thw screen on a mk3 is quite limited. There are some android units that will fit but with no cd/dvd drive and are not as widely available so not as supported.

If funds can reach I would recommend an mib2 Amundsen with mib1 Columbus screen for an OEM look but modern features.
