If it's pre facelift disiesel it will be BMM

If it had been the CR engine, there are EGR simulators available so that the EGR can be blanked off without triggering an emissions warning.

As Anddenton thinks it's a PD engine, then I think it will need to be mapped out to avoid triggering the emissions lamp & consequential MOT failure.

I'm only guessing it's a PD based on it being explod and therefore probably a good few years old but it may be a face lift CR.

I believe the way to blank it is to have a hole in the blanking plate to allow a small amount of flow and keep the ecu happy.

At 210000 miles of be more concerned about the DPF than the EGR.

My 2008 Scout has 190000 miles and no problems yet with either but it can't be that long before a problem is encountered.

Needs mapping out, but to keep us MOT guys happy leave the EGR bolted on (put the blanking plate on though) coz if its missing its an MOT fail. All emissions equipment must be present and fitted. And remember the Engine Management Light must function as intended.

From 2008 registered it must. Before that it’s not part of the test? Feel sure I read something about that?

Anything pre EU4 dosen't need EGR to be there, but anything post EU4 it does as EGR's were part of the EU4 mandate, EU4 came in about late 2007 (i think), but a lot of manufacturers were EU4 compliant long before this, EU5 and DPF was compulsary.

Easiest way is leave the EGR bolted on just with blanking plate fitted, and map it out (if possible) or as said if not possible drill a small hole in the blanking plate to keep the ecu happy.

I wasn’t talking about EGR, I was referring to the EML being on. The EML isn’t part of the test on vehicles before 2008.

I had to open the hole out to around 5.5mm before everything was happy, think I was getting an insufficient flow error code.

2003 onwards for petrol, i'll double check on diesel but as i'm not sure there, just checked EML is part of the test for Vehicles for used on or after 01/07/2008, egr's, dpf's and catalyst's the no date,so if fitted by manufacturer its MUST be fitted.

I'm pretty sure the BMM would have had a DPF so by blanking the EGR might mess up the DPF regens.

Obviously the DPF can be removed but as above, it may cause MOT issues...
