Reprogramming key fob

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know how to reprogramme a key fob?  I've put a new battery in it, but I can't get it to open the car with the button.  It's fine for driving and unlocking the door manually.

VCDS or similar diagnostic kit.

If I recall they don't always need reprogramming (assuming it is the original key for the car), there is a procedure you can go through to re-synchronize them.  Check the manual.

Did you resolve this?

Mine has done the same, but none of the solutions in the manual or online (or ones I’ve seen on Briskoda) have worked for me.

I’ve tried pressing a button, manual unlocking and putting key in ignition.

I've tried good key in ignition and the above.

I’ve tried problem key in ignition and the above. And various combinations of the above.

I have one fully functioning key and one with a new battery that will manually unlock, lock & start the car but won’t do remote un/locking.

I have VCDS (although was going to sell it), but recall there not being anything about key reprogramming in there.

Have I missed some trick to reprogram after a battery change?

No, I couldn't get anything to work, so I just unlock the car manually.  As long as you turn the ignition within 15s then the alarm won't go off.

When one of my remotes stopped working,  I found another on ebay with the same part No. and went through one of these routines to get the car to learn the new remote.  I did it a year or two ago and can't seem to find the youtube clip I used, but it was very like these:

This is a script I found on Tdiclub.com, taken from myturbodiesel.com

Thanks, people. Still can’t get it to resync! The car also doesn’t like the manual opening with the dud key as it only unlocks all doors when the engine is started. Weird!

I’ve discovered my car battery is on the way out, but doubt that has anything to do with it.

Any ideas on VCDS trickery to try before I sell it (VCDS, not the car)?
