HELP!!! VCDS Fault Codes

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've been experiencing a couple of issues for a week or so. Idling has been poor and its been prone to stalling when stopping and going into reverse. I've scanned the car with VCDS just now and I attach the two main faults from the scan. (the phone faults are because I've removed the broken Bluetooth unit!)

I'm presuming the Glow Plug on Cylinder 3 has failed and so has the Fuel Pressure Sensor? If not and I'm way off base would someone please give me their interpretation of the faults and any idea of costs would be really appreciated too? Also if these are needed to be replaced, is it a DIY or dealer fix? The car is a 2011 Elegance 2.0 CR170.

Any help very much appreciated.

Cheers... Rob

It'd certainly be possible for a faulty fuel pressure sensor to cause stalling. Implausible signal generally means that the sensor or its wiring are faulty and sending back spurious data to the ECU. Intermittent would tie in well with what you're saying about this not being a constant problem. I'd have the wiring checked first, or if you can swap a known good fuel pressure sensor from another car that would help narrow it down a bit. If the wiring checks out ok, then you're looking at replacing the sensor. G247 is the pressure sensor on the common rail, so replacing it involves working with the high pressure side of the fuel system. If you're not comfortable doing this I'd suggest leaving it to a mechanic who's familiar with the job.

Thanks very much. Any idea on the cost of the sensor and the time to change it over - I’m just trying to get a ball park in my head! What about the #3 cylinder glow plug fault - I guess that’s just failed? This car has cost me a fortune in the last year. EGR, all the heated seat elements, the steering ring, bump stops, anti role bar bushes, alternator, rad, three wheel bearings (forth is on its way now) cam belt and water pump and now this.  🙄

I'm not 100 % sure but I've seen part prices in the €150-200 range in the brief search I did. I could imagine the fitting being quite quick given its location on the common rail, but as I said you're dealing with the HP fuel system and labour may be higher due to the risks involved. The best thing is to phone around and see what you get quoted. Check fuel injection specialists too.

The glowplug won't cause the engine to cut out, but it may give you trouble starting in cold weather. It'd be good to have it sorted out going into the winter. It's a simple job to do, but care is needed as they can occasionally break off in the head, turning a small job into a huge one.

I hear you on the cost of stuff - I've been going round mine over the last few months changing worn suspension bits to get rid of rattles, and now I think the window regulator has gone in the driver's door. On the flip side, it's a lot of stuff that won't need attention again for quite a while.

Thanks for that. I guess it’ll be the same in Sterling. Yeah that’s true, but the cars done less than 50k. Had zero cost other than services on our MKI right up to the oil pump failure at 99k which the parts were paid for by SUK and the water ingress damage which was paid for by the dealer as they didn’t seal the air filter housing properly when I paid them to do it! It’s done 128k now and the only non working part is the satnav which often won’t recognise the disc.
