Possible oil leak? '14 Octavia RS

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Got a warning notification today to check oil level which I found strange as my car was serviced in May. It was serviced at 99663 kms and currently sits at 105700.

Looked under the vehicle and found a possible leak? Oil isn't leaking onto the ground, I've found it contained in some sort of catchment.

Does this appear to be a leak in anyone's opinion?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi

did you find the root cause?

According to your logic nothing can happen if your car was serviced four months ago. Do you happen to know Mr. Murphy?

Oil plug not sealing, cracked oil pan from hits, faulty oil pan seal, other faulty oil seals from age, bad piston rings, bad oil service, etc. etc.

$hit happens despite 'service'. Oh, and trust your dashboard alert. I bet you didn't check the oil level yet.

An old thread so I'm guessing @Smakerz got to the bottom of the issue by now.

The pictures show a modern car plague, plastic sumps, and plastic sump plugs, weak in comparison, and more more susceptible to impacts and to user error i.e. not replacing the sump plug correctly or over / under tightening the bolts.

This Torx bolt looks to have it's head full of oil, possibly suggesting the oil leak is dripping off the end of this bolt.

Difficult to tell from the photo but it looks as though it is potentially loose by a couple of threads?

I'd start by checking all of the Torx bolts surrounding the sump plug first.
