Immobiliser gremlins

Featured Replies

A few years ago we had the misfortune to have our 2002 1.4 Fabia (8 valve) broken into in Bulgaria. So it was taken away for repair and the garage suggested fitting an Immobiliser, so we agreed. Getting back to France ( I should explain this was originally a car bought in UK, so a righthand drive model) we had various issues. Frequent has been the Immobiliser light and non start at most inconvenient moment. I've just viewed the instrument panel item so will check soldering first. Discovering what the Bulgarians did and their box prompted us to buy a used complete loom and install that; no 5-minute job ! We would like to know how the original Classic model was set up once we ditch this badly made box (see photo), where was the old box situated? Many thanks

The original immobiliser is in the instrument cluster circuitry.

Yes, as Lee says, the pick-up coil goes to pins 1 and 17 of the green connector on the instrument cluster circuit board, which then go to the immobiliser circuit components on that board. There is no separate 'box'. Almost certain to find cracked solder joints at those two pins, I'd think.

ok, thanks, will do this and let you know how i get on.

the engine code is A.Q.V.

another question "can immobiliser be illiminated?"

That's an engine code for a 1.0 litre engine only available 1999-2000 according to this info, are you sure yours isn't AQW?

It's probably easier to fix the solder joints than to eliminate the immobiliser. Here's a picture showing the location of the two joints involved (circled in red):

Having resoldered the 3 cracked joints on the circuit board in the back of the instrument cluster (thanks for your help) I've turned my attention to removing the Bulgarian fitted Immobiliser unit. When I first saw this years ago I just made the connections safe; wires were just twisted together bare/hacked into any local feed or earth and no matched colours, no wiring diagram came with it so it was a case of "leave well alone", Now we have another loom alledged to be correct ,there are some variations noted at the fusebox; certain ommisions such as the ABS and sunroof so what I,d like is a complete wiring diagram rather than the Haynes section by section diagrams, has anyone come across such a thing?

Thanks again

Not that I've seen, it would never all fit on a single page.

Copyrighted official Skoda wiring diagrams can be downloaded for a small fee from erWin Skoda.  The pdf covering all variants of mk1 from August 1999 to July 2002 is 602 pages long, the one for August 2002 to April 2004 is 576 pages. These can easily be found by browsing under the "Individual vehicle information" tab at the homepage, but you have to register and pay your fee or buy a 'flat rate' as it's called, before you can download them. They take a bit of getting used to, but searching for key words with ctrl-F usually gets you to the bits you need fairly fast, as long as you know what those words are!

Alternatively, you can view (and print or print-to-pdf page by page), the wiring diagrams specific to your exact VIN/vehicle using the "Vehicle-specific Information" tab, but you can't download them all in one easy step like you can with the 'full, everything included' pdfs.  I haven't really explored this option, I prefer to get everything and then work out which bits are relevant to the particular car myself.

If you have specific questions about particular wires/fuses etc. I can probably answer them.
