Key

Featured Replies

Hello, forum!

Today, my 19 years old key fob just failed! No electronics trouble. The metal part where the key blade is attached just broke. The question is that I find at eBay (China ofcourse) the whole uncut brand new fob very cheap, with it's electronics. The bad side is that the part number doesn't match exactly. Mine is 1J0959753AA while the seller's is 1J0959753CT. Mine frequency is 433mhz, seller states 434mhz. I guess it's the same frequency but is there any possibility the new fob to work with my car? The first thing I thought is to take the broken metal part from the new one and attach it to the old fob. But there is a possibility that they don't match exactly so I should now if I will be able to make the electronics of the new to work with my car.

Thank you in advance!

Id go to a locksmith as you'll need the new key both cut and coded anyway. The Chinese one if it ever arrives, won't be great. Plus the locksmith will do it immediately

Worth shopping around locksmiths as I've found places like Timpson charging circa £100 FOR A KEY + PROGRAMMING,whilst I've found a local place  ( Eastern EU place ) that wanted £40 for a key. He was going to cut me a door opening key for £15, but after a bit of haggling he set a price of £40 for the key programmed. The AA also do a key assist service ( cost unknown as there's little info  on net), but any local AA man might know of a local cheap locksmith.

Where I live a locksmith's key is an expensive solution. Immo and fob programming isn't a problem, at all. I can do the job, really easy. The only problem is that a locksmith will be unwilling to cut a key that is not bought from him. So, I want to take the broken part of the Chinese fob and replace the broken old one. The part is the metal thing that the blade is attached (a folding type fob). So, no programming at all. But, if there is a slight difference in the oem part and the chinese part, so I have to attach the old blade to the whole new fob and program it. Of course in this case I could swap and the electronics (immo chip and fob pcb) but there is the possibility that the pcb could not fit exactly although at the pictures of the listing, the shape of the pcb is quite the same.

Get a new blade cut and insert it into the old key chassis without breaking the little glass doofer covered in epoxy.

Alternatively....

That's the problem! The blade is intact. The broken part is the folding mechanism where the pin secures. If you look closely at the picture you will see the breakage.

Ah, OK.

Separate the two parts of your key. Read the code off the alarm part (dunno if there's a code on the bladed section....)

Get an equivalent off eBay. You may be able to swap the blade holder metal part only. Check the blade fits the holder and the holder fits in the OLD key.

The transponder for the immobiliser is the important bit. This is why you should need to retain the old key plastic casing for the new blade and metalwork.

Other option is to get the new blade cut and the new transponder matched to the immobiliser.

That's exactly what I want to do. To take the metal blade "holder" of the new chinese fob and replace the original broken. But, because maybe there would be some minor deferences, the second scenario is to fit the original blade at the new fob. But the part numbers are almost but not exactly the same. The difference is at the two last letters, as I mentioned in the first post. Hope it can work. By the way, I have the means (vcds) and the knowledge to do the programming, so that's not a problem. The last scenario (if the chinese electronics refuse to work with my car) is to transplant the immo chip and the fob pcb from the original case to the chinese one. The size and shape look similar.

The initial question was if anyone could know the two part numbers are equal each other in case of I have to use the second scenario.

For the record and to close the topic. The chinese fob arrived. The folding part of the new fob works great at the old plastics. Only the old blade needed a very slight modification to fit the new folding part. So, no electronics change at all. But, to complete the "research" I also managed to program the chinese fob to remote control the locks. So the difference in the part number isn't a problem as for the locks. I haven't tried the immobilizer chip, though since it is not necessary for me.
