2012 vrs black-line estate dash and engine failure??

Featured Replies

Hi, my 2012 diesel Octavia vrs estate blackline edition, has stopped working. The windows were left slightly ajar the other night in a car park and upon collection of the car, the key doesn’t register in the ignition, none of the dash lights come on and neither do the dials, the nav/radio when you turn it on has reverted to Slovakian and wants a code, the interior lights work as does the cigarette charger port. The headlights wont turn on and you can’t lock the car or open the boot? RAC checked all fuses and they were fine, plugged in his computer and said that they wouldn’t speak to each other and that it’s possibly a control module? Has anyone else had this issue at all?

Battery seems the most likely as it may have discharged over night so I'd start by checking it's still over 12v and even consider connecting a battery charger while you try again.

If the key is doing nothing when it's turned, that suggests the ignition switch or the steering control module are sad. I assume there was no water or damp found inside?

You can add 12v to the correct pin on the CAN gateway to force it to wake up. Once it's up, you can start looking for fault codes using VCDS or similar which might give some clues.

Where are you based?

Hi, thanks for the response.

the RAC guy checked the battery and said that it was still good, although the terminals were slightly loose, which he then tightened.

no there was no water or damp found, although he managed to get the day lights on the front bumper to turn on when playing around under the steering wheel. But they turned off once he stopped and don’t come on still.

unfortunately this is not a strong point in my limited knowledge of cars lol 🤦🏻‍♂️ Am based in Hampshire

Too far away for me to take a look.

I wonder what the RAC guy did to get the DRL on. If they were on full brightness as DRL, that suggests the ignition may have been on, if they were on low brightness as sidelights, that suggests he may have just turned the headlight switch on.

Battery/fuses/relays are still where I'd start, at least until the ignition comes up and diagnostics can be connected.

Might be worth getting an auto electrician or VAG specialist to take a look?
