DSG Oil Change

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just after some reassurance\clarification.

Fixed price servicing states DSG Oil Change @ £189. Does anyone know if this definately includes the filter?

2014 Diesel VRS DSG

Thanks

Yes it does

Does anyone know how big of a job it is to do it yourself?

I assume there is a sump plug of some description but what is the access like? Both for accessing the cap above and the plug below?

Just about to buy a mk3 and thinking of changing the oil very soon as it’s on 30 something k mileage.

I was wondering what the recommended interval is for this. My 2016 with 36k has DSG and cant see that it has been changed as yet. Car has been serviced twice on variable service schedule by Skoda.

Here’s an idea of what’s involved...

40k intervals. I'm on about 36k for this oil but having it done at the same time as the service\mot\cambelt....easier than taking it in again later

Thanks, mine is 1.6 TDI is the cambelt 40k for that as well? Seems quite early, my Zafira was 10 years or 100k (allegedly) but i got it sone sooner.

General consensus is 100k (ish) or 5 years for UK market. This seems to be the lowest of all markets with all varieties up to 160k inspection only with no time frame.

I guess it depends on what you intend to do with the car. Getting rid in a couple of years and you do low miles?... Maybe not worry. Need proper service records and/or keeping it for a while I'd say get it done within those intervals.

Mines on 5yrs\72k so 2nd DSG change hence the cam belt. Also service, MOT and brake fluid. A nice £900 bill coming my way tomorrow!

Be careful, the 1.6 TDI normally has a DQ200 (7 speeds dry-clutches). Officially, no oil servicing. IRL it's always better to have some oil changed, but it's not the same procedure.

Ouch! £900 over 72k plus a number of services........ let's conservatively say £150 a year service (or £300 every 2 years):  900 + 150 * 4 => £1500 on maintenance!

10.5p per mile in fuel, 2p per mile in maintenance. These 2.0 TDI's are very costly car to own.......

My Nissan Leaf, 2.5p per mile and zero maintenance required. Much much better to drive than the any gearbox.

I know which car I'll be eager to get rid of.

I'm thinking to get rid of my Skoda before my next timing belt due, which is in 3 years time (waterpump had to be replaced, so timing belt was done in 2017). DSG oil has 30k left from last year's oil change. Flog the high maintenance for a low maintenance EV before big bills are due :D

Pain in the arse. The fluid alone costs nearly £120.

Well worth paying someone £50 to do it for you,

If zero maintenance required do Nissan just charge £150-£200 for an annual service to vacuum the interior :)

Looks ike a complex and time consuming job. I wonder if the box could be refilled through the filter housing?

Not if doing it the correct way as it needs to be running to set the level.

The method of drain out and measure then refil with the same amount has never sat that well with me as it hinges on the level being correct originally.

It doesn’t take that long to do it properly. 30 mins max as long as the gearbox isn’t too hot.

Long and time consuming job if someone does not only have all the gear and more than an idea and c-cks it up because they cant be bothered but want the work / money.

If you happen to have an Audi and they are calling the DSG a S-Tronic then it gets advised to be done at 38,000 miles.

Those with VAQ remember the servicing of that.

Yes, that's essentially it. Do similar checks to MOT, lightly vacuum and badly wash the car. Then charge extortionate amount.

Here is the service schedule for Leaf EV: https://www.speakev.com/threads/leaf-minor-service-rip-off.97537/page-3#post-2342988

But I'm not going to take my Leaf to service ever again, after the last free service next month. My car will get MOT'd and DIY change pollen filter, brake fluid tested, nothing else required. £18 MOT using Groupon at ATS, £15 cabin filter every 2 years, £40 brake fluid change when required.

Coolant change at all?

Once every 4 years is hardly something to worry about. £65 at main dealer, or cheaper at indie (https://www.hevra.org.uk/garages.html)

It's also not included as part of standard service. My point regarding service for EV is not needed, still stands.

Merely a question as I am not familiar with that EV system.
