Breaking MK1 VRS Octavia

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Unfortunately i have been involved in an accident in my beloved Octavia mk1 VRS 1.8T resulting in the radiator bursting and the bonet crumpling pushing the lights into the engine bay. Im devastated! Ive never had a crash before but this looks like its done some damage and ive been told to expect a right off once its been assessed. With it being an older car too i dont expect the true value of the car will be upheld as it'll be classed as just a 14 year old Skoda. Id like some advice please on what to do should i get it scrapped or would it be more beneficial to sell it for breaking or sell it to someone to repair? I would love to fix it myself however im 20 and already the insurance is sky high and i dont want to think what it would be without my 3 years no claims and im finding it expensive to run which i expected but with the repairs and insurance ontop and my current position i dont think ill be able to keep the car and id much rather know its back on the road.

I understand the info is vague but any help is appreciated.

Thank you

I'd say if you have somewhere you can keep it (drive or garage) strip it. You'll get much more for it depending on damage as parts than a scrappy would give you.

I stripped My b5 passat estate. Took nearly a year to sell everything but got my money back

Hi.

Sorry to hear that.

If you do ever need any help with insurance at all then please feel free to drop me a line. I'd be only to pleased to try and help.

Regards.

Dan.

I was rear ended and my car was written off in 2014, I kept the car (for 10% of its valuation) and had it repaired using second hand parts. I looked at replacing it but I'm glad I kept it.

Depending how bad the damage is it might be worth repairing if the chassis is OK and you can source second hand parts.

Whether it's repairable or not it's probably worth keeping the car if you can store it off the road - you should easily get more selling it as spares/repair than it'll cost you to keep it. You'll get even more back if you have the space & time to break it yourself.

Where is the car now? Have you still got the V5?

Hello all thanks you for your help. Ive had the car assessed and the damage is much less than originally thought thankfully there isnt structural damage it just needs new bonnet, radiator and housing / slam bar. I plan to source the parts second hand and repair it. Thanks for all your comments its much appreciated!

Brilliant mate.

Glad to hear you get to keep it.
