Vibration when in D and stopped, 206kw sportline

The dealer is just fobbing you off. Yes just a bull**** excuse. My 280 (206kw) is silky smooth in neutral and exactly the same in d with foot on the brake. Sometimes I have to look at the rev counter to see if it has auto-stopped or is still running.

I mostly run mine on Tesco momentum (99 octane) but if I fill it with 95, it makes no difference to idle smoothness.

Yea, that's what most of the car's I have been driven are like, I had an a6 and sometimes I wouldn't even know if my car was running when it's in D with foot on the break.

Just over 800 in D and full footbrake or handbrake. 1000rpm in sport.

I was under the impression dsg clutches are disengaged in D with hard foot brake. Can see the revs drop to 800. Lift off footbrake slightly and revs lift to 1000, lift further and car creeps.

No vibration to note in any mode.

98ron shell v power. Never tried 95ron in it other than emergency get me home tank after purchase.

That's what I thought. But the dealer keep saying the gear is always engaged and ready to go. If I let my foot off the break a little bit. Rev goes up to 1000 as well. So will have to look into it. Still got just under 4 years of warranty so I will get that sorted no matter what. I can clearly feel the vibration on the steering wheel, door panel and centre glove box.

A friend of mine which is a mechanic was in my car the other day. He said his initial thought was engine mount. What do u guys think? I will bring it up to the dealer, got my service coming up this month.

Yes the DSG gears are always engaged (even in N). In N the clutches are fully disengaged. When you put it into D with foot on the brake, the clutch for 1st gear does move towards engagement but barely makes contact (in fact doesn’t make contact at all on a wet clutch model, there is a film of oil in between the plates). It’s like holding the clutch on a manual car just not quite on the point of starting to bite. When you release the brake, the clutch moves further towards engagement and the car creeps forward.

But in a serviceable car, all this happens without any hint of vibration.

warped clutch, faulty engine mounts, misfire etc are all possible causes but impossible to diagnose from afar.

@Jamesnz did you ever get this resolved? Mine is exactly as you described.

Clutch should be just ready on DSG in D, not engaged. You always have a pause when you release the break, it does not start immediately as torque converter. I know this by reaction times on 402 races. DSG just sucks even with TCU tune.
Yes, there is some difference in D and N, but it is probably due to some activation of gearbox itself.

Idle is bellow 800rpm, if I am right around 760rpm. And this is for MY2017 with MPI, without GPF.
If rpm is increased in later models, this is probably way to resolve rough or better say not smooth idle found on many cars with EA888 Gen3 engine in USA and Europe.

I guess your 206kw is new one with 7 speed dry clutch, so no need to check DSG fluid?

@Bingodalton it is the 6 speed wet clutch (DQ250). You were right about increasing the idle RPM though. I increased this by 50rpm (the maximum that OBDEleven would allow) and that has smoothed it out quite a lot 😁

Yes, DQ250 is wet clutch.

Increased rpm on idle always helps. Like when you turn an AC on, or in Sport mode.

I could think about increasing it a little bit too. 50 is maybe not a lot, but if it makes a difference...
