Hi I have a 2015 Skoda octavia vrs and recently decided to update my satnav using the online portal. 

I am using a Mac which I purchased this year so it is the most up-to-date in terms of software etc. 

I managed to download the 2019 maps and unzipped the file. 

I deleted the contents of the sd card and formatted it to exFat using disc utility.

I then Transferred the file to the sd card and when I put the sd card card into my car it does not work. 

I have noticed that there are many folders in the downloaded file. I was wondering if I only need to transfer one of those folders to the sd card for it to work?

Any advice would be appreciated!

You need all of the folders on the SD card, but also since you have used a Mac need to remove the extra files that a Mac adds that begin with a (dot), I use BlueHarvest for this but other members use CleanEject.

 

If you have an Amundsen you must also use a genuine Skoda SD card.

Hi, Thanks for your response. I am using a genuine Skoda SD Card that came with the car. Unfortunately this still does not work. 

 

Not too sure about the extra files that get added by Mac as on my computer there are no extra files added? 

 

I have called Skoda dealership and they said that they will not be able to update for me or even sell me an updated SD Card.

Irrespective of you saying there are no extra files on the card, follow the advice given above to remove any hidden files which have been added by your Mac. When you've done this, if you still have a problem revisit the topic and ask again. 99.9% of sd card update issues related to a Mac are solved by cleaning the hidden files.

 

Note that a 2015 car could be either MIB1or MIB2, so be sure you're using the correct download.

As Rustynuts says the extra files are marked as hidden so your Mac won't display them (unless you have enabled hidden files in Finder, see How to show hidden files on Mac).

Thanks for that. I have managed to find the hidden files and delete them. However it is not possible to delete one hidden file which gets created after you delete the hidden files. This hidden file is called 'trashes'. I will try it this way and hope it works. 

Also do you know if the sd card should be formatted 'ExFAT' or 'MS-DOS(FAT)" ?

I format FAT32.

I’d check the folder structure first, because with these Skoda/VW map updates you normally can’t just copy the downloaded parent folder onto the SD card. The files and folders that the car expects usually need to be directly in the root of the card, exactly as they were arranged in the original update.

Also, the formatting could be the problem. Depending on which infotainment/navigation unit you have, exFAT may not be supported even if the Mac lets you format the card that way. I’d check the exact requirements for your 2015 unit and try FAT32 if that is what the update instructions specify.

One more thing: if this is the original navigation SD card, some Skoda systems use a specific card that is tied to the unit. In that case, formatting it or replacing it with another card can stop the navigation from recognizing the data at all.

So before copying anything again, I’d check: exact infotainment system, required SD-card format, and whether the contents of the update need to be placed directly at the card’s root. The multiple folders in the download are usually all part of the map package, not separate optional folders.
