Coilpacks on 2000 MY Octavias

Featured Replies

Well, had my second coil pack failure on the way to work this morning. Happily, thanks to all my mates at Briskoda, I:

  • Immediately recognised the symptoms
  • Diagnosed which was the faulty coil pack by the roadside
  • Disconnected the injector on the affected cylinder
  • Rang round some VAG dealers til I found a local one with stock (Guildford Audi)
  • Picked it up and fitted the new one

All by 11 am. So thanks to Briskoda for giving me the knowledge.

The bad news is that the coil packs on the older engines are not the same as the newer ones, and although supposedly more reliable, are also more expensive, at

Humph!

No, it's a coil pack.

Sorry, someone had to do it.

Having not examined the oily bits under the bonnet of my car, is it possible something could have just come loose? A 100 miles is nothing.

Nick,

1 word..

Bugger ! :D

Skoda parts come with a one year guarantee - which should be useful in this case. Interestingly, the spare coilpack I bought from a VW dealer comes with a 2 year guarantee.

do these coil packs go on the whole range or have they sorted them with new "revised" parts on new models ?

sounds a bit :dung: though

Only cars with the 1.8T engine are affected (all vRS' date=' some Elegance and L&K). Also, it only affects a batch built between (roughly) end 2000 and early 2002.

There was a batch of coil packs which were susceptible to failure; if you look at this post (thanks to LadyLoki for posting it), you will see the affected chassis numbers.

New (and newish) models are fitted with the latest "J" or "L" coilpacks, which are (so far) proving to be reliable. It also looks like the dodgy coilpacks are now being replaced as a matter of course when cars go into dealers for any other reason.

ok, thanks for that.

i'll make a note of the dates from the last post incase a new vRS isnt on budget after crimbo...

I don't know if it's of interest, but I was looking on Ebay for stuff and noticed that VAG 1.8T coilpacks were on sale for

I didn't get any hits for coilpacks just now on eBay but a search for Skoda parts did reveal an advert which could be of interest to some members.........

Well 5 weeks later it's still misfiring occasionally. I think I've proven it's NOT a coil pack problem, so my initial crowing at my cleverness in diagnosing it was misplaced. Moved the new coil pack to a different cylinder and next time it happened it was still No 3. So next likely option would seem to be injector. Have put 4 lots of injector cleaner through it now - it is better, but still rears its head from time to time. When it happens, full throttle, or on and off the throttle a few times, seems to clear it. Anybody a) know how much new injectors are or B) have any other suggestions?

BTW I've moved the injector to another cylinder now too so I'm waiting for it to happen again badly enough and without loads of other people in the car, and hundreds of miles away from home, to investigate further.

On the plus side, I now have a spare coil pack in the boot

I had two coilpacks that died at the same time, easy to change, less than 10 minute job. If I can do it anyone can. I had the red Engine symbol flash up on the dash, looked it up in the manual just to make sure.

I'm almost 100% convinced now that it's an injector thing. 4 loads of injector cleaner, plus the weekend's dash (sorry scenic tour) around Wales has just about cleared it, but I am thinking of maybe getting my injectors ultrasonically cleaned to get over the lingering slight roughness and slightly impaired MPG. Has anyone had this done, or know of a good (reasonably priced) service. I've been quoted various prices from

I'd say that it depends on your dealer ... :weeping:
