Octavia III headlight modification

Featured Replies

Hello friends
The winter is  coming and we are all in need of better lightning...
I ain't pleased with what my octavia gives to me when talking about lightning...

I have an idea to put aftermarket projectors into halogen headlight housing so I get that nice cut of beam that projector gives...
And there is a problem, how do i open those headlights? Are they glued? Are they only clipped, because I see some clips on top of the headlight?
Did anyone already done some work around those headlights?
If anyone has some good advices on this idea, please write some of them...

If you want to do this do it the right way, the cons list on a «rebuild» is long.

Buy OEM headlights with ECMs, leveling sensors and wiring.

What are that cons?

First of all you have to open the halogen headlight without damaging it, this means heating the entire housing it so the glue softens up, and get it back together 100% sealed. Without leveling sensors you will either light up cars coming towards you or your lights will hit too low.

Hardware for a retrofit isn't that expensive, and you will get perfect light.

The "nice cut of beam" you desire from projectors, I see as a disadvantage, not an advantage.

Loads of light, loads of light, then boom, pitch black.

The gradually diminishing light from reflectors appears to give them the perception of being less bright, yet in reality I've found they're as bright as projectors up to the same point on the road, but with reflectors you get light further up the road, only less bright from the point at which the projector would ordinarily cut off.

If it is more light you're looking for try better bulbs, road legal bulbs.

Minimal extra light, often with significantly reduced life.

I moved from halogens to xenon's then to LED headlights and now won't go back. The sudden cut-off is still there but their ability to self level and adjust offsets a lot of the disadvantages.

A bit severe, but you'd be better buying a car with the factory fitted xenon's or LED's, or ride it out until you're ready to change cars anyway and make sure they're on the list.
