Buying a superb estate

Featured Replies

Hi

Looking for a superb mark 3 estate around £15,000 budget. My main requirements are folding door mirrors, ACC, front and rear parking sensors and air con. Also 2.0 L engine and a diesel  and maybe 4x4 drive with larger wheels 18-19 inch plus would like a DSC gearbox for a change.  What model would give me all these thing?  Find it really confusing working out the spec from guides.

I tend to keep cars for a long time so happy the depreciation of a diesel in today’s current climate and is something I can live with.  Initially had concerns regarding whether petrol was the way to go rather than diesel but most reviews of the superb recommend to 2 l diesel

Thanks

john

What is your requirement as a daily driver as in the miles you do, and what annually?

Hi John. Looking at budget, I suspect you will be considering a 2016 or 2017 model. The options on the Superb are mind-blowing, so you will need to read Auto Trader very carefully. I'm guessing that for the functions you want it will need to be a heavily specced SEL or an SEL-Exec at minimum. L&K has everything you have listed and more, but is obviously more expensive. L&K also has 18" wheels as standard - not sure about the others.

Re 4x4 and diesel, my understanding is that you would need to go for the 190ps if you want both combined  - I'm not aware of a 150TDI 4x4. I think that will limit your choice quite a lot, and  you might struggle for £15k unless you're prepared to accept higher mileage. Is there a particular reason why 4x4 is important? I see you are in Scotland, but (Sassenach lack of knowledge alert) would winter tyres on a 2WD be an acceptable alternative? @Roottootemoot - any view? I know you are much closer geographically than I am. I'm guessing it would probably be a lot cheaper to get a set of winter wheels and tyres than 4x4.

The AWD bit can be a good thing anyplace really, factor in Haldex oil & filter changes every 3 years or sooner,

the TDI rather than the TSI comes down to economics of it.

Hi

Thanks for info, perhaps 4x4 would be an more expensive extra and winter tyres would be sufficient....never thought of that! The winters here are certainly milder and wetter over the last few years here in Glasgow.  As for mileage it would be mainly driven at the wend and the odd day during the week as I car share at the moment with my wife for work.  The size of boot is really what I like for the hobbies I do at the wend. I have just sold a Octavia estate 4x4 which served me well for 10 years and the space was great.  It just lacked all the more modern tech.

Winter tyres on whatever wheel drive in winter will be better than summer tyres on 4x4 in winter.

I have a 2017 SEL Exec Saloon and it has 18" and rear parking sensors only as standard.  It came with everything else you are looking for.

IIRC all Superbs have A/C.

Mine will be available soon, 2015 L&K 280 estate 4wd, fully loaded with every possible extra except the smokers pack! At the present it has 55K miles, petrol blue, beige leather.

Oooh you tease! Im sorry for your (deprecation) loss, but that will be a cracker for owner no. 2.

Obviously im biased - 2016 petrol blue SE-l estate with DCC, heated screen , variable floor, real spare and vented seats. Bought with 48000mls at 2 years old last Jan.

I bought mine

2016 SEL exec estate 4x4  DSG 190 with 1000 miles on the clock last March fully loaded (only things it didnt have was a sunroof and tow-bar)  it’s now done 12k

cost me £16500. So a very good deal.

I’m very happy with it so far but it was purchased from a friend!

i purchased my 2016 SE-L from a dealer, i paid 10.5k for it but it does have "higher" miles. That wasn't an issue for me so was happy to make the savings.

Its a 2.0 TDi 6MT 2WD which is what i was after.
