Rain and open Doors

Featured Replies

Hi All,

So, my Kodiaq 2019 version is all and well.

But anyone noticed how poorly the rain drains off the car roof, and into the car if the car door is open?

My Scenario:

Its a raining more then usual, and am putting the kids into the car, i open the car door and put the kid into his seat and strap him up. By the time i open the rear door, the water is already gushing off the top of the roof and into the car back seat and it just makes a mess.

Of course strapping your child can take longer dependent on the day and times that by 2 kids 🙂 , but the point is should the water not be properly drained and down the back of the car instead of it coming through on to the seat if the door is open?

Do any of you have this problem? Is it just a case of bad design?

Thanks

K

Yep, falls right onto the seat.  Sucks.

Not just confined to the Kodiaq almost all modern designed cars with gutterless roofs suffer from this  foible.

As above, all modern cars do this to some extent.

Don't polish your car, or use rinse aid, or anything that will protect the paint or assist the formulation of water beads.

Rain gutters on cars are a thing of the past...

Mine was waxed.. So Ill think about that the next time I clean the car.

My Audi A3 was never so bad, this got me down the back of my neck, jacket  etc😂😂😂

It's something we just need to live with I guess.. Thanks All

No sure if Ford sold the MkI Ford Puma in Switzerland, I had one back in the late 90's.

It was almost as if Ford had gone out of their way to deliberately design the boot so that all, and I mean all, of the water on the rear window was perfectly funnelled directly into the boot :D

We've just got our Kodiaq and we were really happy untill we used it on a rainy day, the wife and back seats got a drenching while strapping the grandson in

It's a shame noone thought to address this in the design stage.

Not sure if there's a solution to keeping the back dry when back doors open?

Unfortunately your options are limited...

Take solace in the fact that the Kodiaq is no worse than any other manufacturer in this respect.

Perhaps we get more rain in the UK than in the Czech Republic :D

Obviously Rain Gutters are a thing of the past on SUV's and Crossover vehicles, but the likes of a 2019 Suzuki Jimny gets them, and then the Mercedes G-Class still has them.

Not sure if you just have to get a wet seat with the New Defender or if they have done something smart.

so you keep a large towel in the car solely for the water dripping off the roof into the car?

To me, this is a major flaw in design. Cant believe they didnt think about this, here in the Swiss there is lots of snow so we will see how much more water will come into the car.

I guess i will have to use the umbrellas provided in the car 😉

'Simply Clever'.

Umbrella in the Door, Ice scraper (scratcher) in the Fuel Flap, poor design and in some conditions if you do not prepare Fuel Flaps have been freezing closed model and model generation and doors feeze closed and also doors & Goors seals can fill with H20 then freeze if passengers doors not getting opened.

Odd from a Manufacturer in the Czech Republic and other Central European Countries.

It's a shame they couldn't design the rest of bodywork to repel moisture as effectively.  Not many Puma's, Ka's or Fiesta's from that era left, I think they borrowed anti-corrosion treatment from Lancia

Yep, mine quickly began to dissolve around the rear wheel arches and fuel filler flap, so it was promptly sold. Shame really, other than the rust it was a great little car.

The drying towel was a tongue-in-cheek comment 🙂

In my experience the conditions have to be just right for water to run off the roof and directly into the interior i.e. during heavy rain (so the interior will get wet anyway) or recently after washing or polishing the car (where the water beads in large quantities on the surface).

Situations that I can probably count on one hand in my 18 months of Kodiaq ownership.

No doubt owners individual experiences will differ.

Agreed.  A Ford Racing Puma is on my 'lotto win car collection' list.  A long with a few other fast Fords.

Already deployed the drying towel lol

Since we've only had the Kodiaq just over two week no doudt it got a wax and polish before we picked it upsuppose I'll need to wait for the polish to fade,  in the mean time we'll use the towel method lol

Oh god, you just sent me back 35 years and I'm sitting beside my father in a Fiat 128.  He had just traded in his white one and said EXACTLY THAT.

It was also is reason for trading it in for a bright orange/red 128 - "other than the rust it was a great little car"!!

I asked him why, why, why it had to be a nasty orangey red?   Wait for it.... "Because Robin - it will hide the rust!"
