Keeps asking for radio code every morning

Featured Replies

Any ideas why my stereo requires the code everyday?

but unusual but nothing else is affected.

Because you have the switched live and the permanent live mixed up so as far as the radio is concerned it's being disconnected from the battery.

Not touched the radio and it has never been removed 🤷‍♂️

Is it a Skoda stereo or aftermarket?

Standard skoda unit.

Needs checking for perm live at the black/blue cable at the connector plug.

Ok cheers, will whip it out at the weekend and check.

Oh, then it must be just fine and doesn't need fixing at all.

The main thing is, it obviously isn't your fault so don't worry about it.

Only had this car for a week, started yesterday and has been fine up until then.

Ignore him. He's always like that.

I was teasing you because your reply was so useless, it's a permanent live issue as TMB (AKA Captain Literal) and I have tried to point out.

For the record, I wasn't accusing you of meddling with the wiring, simply trying get you to start the diagnostic process yourself.

When I look at the wiring diagrams (2004 version on this occasion; what year is your car?), there aren't any ignition switched feeds to the radio. Two permanent 12V feeds on pins 5 and 7 of the Black 8-way connector, both black/blue wires, both from fuse 45. So check that both of those are unbroken, I guess.

There is also a 'key in ignition barrel' live on pin 4, brown/red wire.

extra info

Last few oldish radios I had out and back in again seem to remember their code regardless of being powered down, not sure if this applies to the Mk1 Fabia though, did the mk1 have any sort of can-bus at all?

My reply was not useless, it was merely pointing out that the heady unit hasn’t been removed previously so completely relevant.

reason for me posting up this thread was to check there were not any common issues before I start taking things apart.

Every forum has that one moron, I guess that’s you !

Suit yourself, if you look at my reputation you'll find I'm really helpful but I have a quirky sense of humour.

You obviously don't have a sense of humour at all and you won't be getting any help from me either. Good luck and goodbye.

In my early days on this site I came across this member, and could not understand why he posted an unhelpful sarcastic  reply. Thank God we have 'Wino' and others on this forum, they never put anything other than good sound knowledgeable help.

My 04 always remembers the code.

Fastevo- no one was accusing you of wire tampering, but wires ar known to break for no good reason . Just as easy as cables left in an orderly fashion tend to try and wrap themselves around one another ( How do I know- over 50 years in comms & electronics tells me that this will happen). From Haynes -there's two power inputs to the radio from Fuse 45 and another from the electrical system control unit.

Those two facts seem to contradict one another. Worth taking it out and checking the connections, failing that it's probably a faulty unit. The symphony was never all that anyway, it's done well getting this far.

3 actually and 2 fuses, IIRC....

Fuse 10 gets there somehow.

Fuse 45 has already been mentioned.

One thing I'd add is my Symphony CD started playing up. Shutting down in mid-journey etc. Turns out that when the ICE was fitted, to reduce interference, the shop had run new wires to the Symphony from the new amplifier wiring. Many years later, one of the screw terminals on the large inline fuse started working loose, causing an intermittent connection.

The age of these cars, it's not unusual for someone to have fitted something bling, then removed it when trading in.

Check the fuses, then test the wiring to the h/u after whipping it out. Make sure the switched and permanent wires are where they should be. The conductors can be removed individually with a paper clip or similar avoiding people cutting the wires. Plenty of guides around the web.

J.

I hadn't spotted F10 as it's not on the radio page, but as it's mentioned as "s contact accessories "I'd be tempted to look at that one too. What I was looking for was the "X" which powers things only when ignition is on .

One way to check voltage to the connector is to use a pin to get through the insulation to the wires, without damaging the wiring.

Well spotted, that's the 'key in ignition' (as opposed to ignition on, but I imagine it stays on whatever position the key is in, as long as it's in) supply fuse. 5 Amp fuse.

Terminal 15 is stuff that's always on when ignition is on. Terminal 75X is stuff that's on with ignition on except when cranking the engine, so anything wired into this will switch off briefly, then back on again if it's on when the engine is being started up.

Many thanks.

Cheers for the useful ideas folks.  I will check the relevant fuses, if no joy I will whip the head out and checked the mentioned wires at the weekend.

  • 3 weeks later...

hello everyone. i have a little problem. i connected my new aftermarket stereo like this :

Black conector:

Pin8 to graund (stereo-black)

pin7 to constant supply(stereo-yellow)

pin4 to 12v swiched supply with ignition(stereo-red).

I just connected the wires to see if everything works and how it works. when i unplugged the wires to put the stereo in place and to nice connected all the wires the radio did not want to work.   now  only works if the yellow and red wires (from stereo)are connected together to pin4.so he does not remember the settings and the clock.

Very strange, i don't know what happened. sorry for my bad english
