Fabia MkIII Water temp issue?!

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have a 2017 MkIII Fabia Estate with 1.0 mpi (55kw) engine. It is pretty cool and I like it so much. But I noticed an annoying thing on the coolant gauge.

The coolant goes up to 90 degrees within 2-3 kilometers and it is still stay there always, everything perfect. But If I heat the chassis so much (it means 3rd or 4th heating positon and max temperature) the coolant gauge goes drop 3-4 sign from 90 degrees for  (approx 60-70 degrees) and it is very hard to get the temp back to 90 degrees. If I set the heating motor back to 2nd or 1st position, the water temp goes back to normal 90 degrees and stay there. On summer everything alright and with Air Conditioner too, I noticed it only by heating.

Thank for help.

Regards:

Joey

A  different engine type, but in my wife's 2015 Polo 6C 1.2TSI 110PS engine, if we start asking for a lot of cabin heating as soon as the engine coolant temperature gauge has just reached 90C, it will drop back down and take a few miles before it gets back up to 90C. The coolant systems on these cars are split up to speed up the engine reaching normal working temperature, which is why with the cabin fan switched off, the temperature gauge will reach an indicated 90C very quickly - but as the coolant is dependant on the engine heating the water back up, it can take some time to recover to an indicated 90C.

So it is normal?

One route I go regularly where I have been parked for 2 hours.

On starting the engine it goes up to 90C in less than 1 mile.

I then descend a long hill where I am in gear but use no throttle all the way down.

No throttle = no petrol = no heat.

The temperature can go back down to 60C by the time I get to the bottom of the hill.

It rises once I reapply the throttle again.

I'd say so, these engines are also a lot more efficient than earlier petrol engines, yo can tell this from their fuel use, so less wasted energy means less created heat, nothing like as efficient as TDI engines though!

Wife has a 1.6 tdi golf which does exactly the same... Her commute is ~2 mile flat, 1 might up a big hill, 2 miles down the other side mostly coasting.

This thread reminds me, I had a front grill blanking plate for my Yeti but have not seen one for the Fabia.

Its a water cooled exhaust, which you can learn about here :
