Sensors/Diagnostics Assistance Advice Wanted

Featured Replies

Just purchased (Yeti TDI L&K 150hp MANUAL 4x4 Nov2015 ) in the Midlands from a Skoda dealer only 22k miles.

Drove all the way back to Galway all running well. On the way back to Dublin 130 minutes of driving 220kms out with a subsequent journey of the same length/distance the next day.

The following lights and error codes.

I’d be looking at the battery first, (unless it’s relatively new).....it might be on its last legs.

Sitting around a dealership doing the occasional start isn’t good, but inclined to result in such displays if low on, or unable to maintain, voltage.

Battery does,nt seem to be low,(with lights and startup0.. would have thought it would recharge itself over a long journey.

Its booked into Skoda for tuesday  under warranty......

Hopefully there won,t be any problem with a UK car under warranty in IRL and I won,t have to pay anything....

Thanks for the advice Ryeman

abs / esc / power steering could be an abs sensor - I have a similar problem, intermittently, when car started from cold the 3 icons are lit, after driving 3 - 4 kms they all go out,, I think perhaps corrosion of the abs ring is causing the problem, I am awaiting delivery of a new sensor, discs and pads , my problem is the rear o/s wheel!

Got the car back from the Skoda workshop they said it was most likely "dust,or dirt from a new brake pad change.".!!

I drove 230Kms or 145 miles all sweet returning the next day after about 140miles or 2 hrs 15mins.....SAME warning lights came on

Dashboard reads .........

ERROR STABILIZATION CONTROL ESC

NO CORNERING LIGHTS

TPMS

ABS

Power Steering

STABILITY CONTROL

All same as before..........

The Dealership put a note on the Invoice if problem recurred..

"May require BEARING and SENSOR" for €480/£410.....!!!

Has anyone had a similar problem and/or is this "Bearing and Sensor" likely to solve the problem for this expense???

I know it would be a pain but you might be better off returning car to dealer and getting a refund. The problems you describe could get very expensive to sort out with no guarantee of actually getting it sorted.

Mmm.. okay It does drive beautifully otherwise......and when I stop switch off, take out keys and restart all warning lights normally go out....

The problem is I bought in the Midlands in the UK and live in IRL.

So will see it through, till its sorted. Might have to bring it back to the UK to a diagnostic/specialist, if needs be.

Thanks Expatman

I'd probably get a scan done with VCDS to find out exactly what codes are stored as it'll likely give you a better clue than the dealer has.

@Shahoff is shown in the VCDS owners list for Dublin and might be able to help with the scan :)

Ok thanks Langers2K

Sounds like ABS sensor or wiring/connector to ABS sensor. I can help to read error codes with ODIS. Unfortunately with VCDS every new VIN cost me a bit money as I have 10 VIN limit  and eventually have to buy unlim license :) but doable as well.

Hi Shahoff

If you can do the ODIS scan I will pay your VIN cost. My car is in Dub 2   but can travel to where is convenient..from Monday onwards

My email is [removed]

Many thanks

As already mentioned, a failing battery is often the cause of multiple and as in this case unrelated error messages.

A common misconception of a failing battery is that the obvious side effect would be an inability to turn over or start the engine. This isn't always the case.

Skoda's (most models, not just the Yeti) are very finicky when it comes to their batteries. All of the electrically dependant systems start throwing errors.

The fault codes you have do not appear to be linked, i.e. braking system and external lights.

An £80 battery might be a good low cost first check, and even if it isn't the culprit it is always beneficial to have a brand new battery before the winter hits.

If you prefer not to spend money before being able to conclusively isolate the fault then a proper VCDS scan of the fault codes will help you a lot.

Resurrecting this topic, I have all the pieces to now change rear discs, pads, sensors, just need some time in my garage to fit 'em!  However the warning lights are now no longer indicating I have a problem, cleared the fault log and they are no longer being registered, what's happened , why is there no longer a problem? I have been, when the road is clear, switching off the ignition with the car still rolling in gear, then switching on the ignition, all the warnings under those circumstances used to disappear after 1  or 2 mins. I now no lomger need to do my 'reset whilst driving, ie everything seems to be back to normal, I jut now get the short illumination when firing the engine up on the ignition key.

I ask just out of curiosity!!

Yes....mine too.....all above lights come on after about 2 hours driving.....then when engine is switched off/on again normally within a few mins lights are gone off...with no warning lights on........

Have the car booked in on Friday ....to try a new battery....if that makes any difference...???
