Long Time Lurker - The Time Has Come !

Featured Replies

Hi All

           Firstly Hello from Patch - Glenamaddy - Co.Galway !!

Ive been lurking for the last 7 months since getting my Fabia vRS Mk1 ! Your forums are a one stop shop for me. Ive sorted the water leak in the back, Ive sorted the intermittent starting issue (wire to the starter) and in the middle of getting Audi TT 312mm front brakes - This I would never have had the confidence to do without this forum or HatBoyHarvey  ... So a big big thanks to you all for all the info !!

Time to come out of the shadows ! Im Donal - Im 48 and in a midlife crisis so back to my youth.... I got my Fabia out of a necessity ! We moved to the country from the city and my commute is now 35 miles each way - 75% of that is narrow winding roads. I had no car for 7 years so I had no NCB at all. I looked at a Golf or two but they were really juicy insurance wise. YouTube showed a young fella Jake I think who had a modded vRS and said they were a good runner as standard - He wasnt wrong ..!

Mine is originally a Belfast car which was imported to Longford in 2009, Hence the 05-RN plate, then went to Cork and then Lusk in Dublin. Theres an old expression "Right tool for the Job" and mine is all that ! Over the backroads its small size is brillant - Brakes are super - and its shocking economical to run.. ! The only downside is the tax which is €673 per year - But that sthe only downside !

All I really needed was a car easy to run and maintain and this little belter far surpasses my expectations - I wash her at the weekends now FFS and get the look of distain from the so called yummy mommys (far from yummy unless you consider eating them....!!)  as they snobbily look down from their Hyundai Tuscons , as I roll up in the tinted lowered Fabia with a straight pipe at teh school gate.

On the British Open Rally Championship n the 80's John Haugland excelled in the Group A up to 1600cc class in the Skoda 120Ls and later 130LR embarassing and upsetting many of the big boys ... Emblasoned on the sunstrip was "Surprising Skoda" - Surprising indeed - I really would love to put that on my back screen but due to marital restricions this request is at present denied.... !

What an excellent intro! Welcome, Donal :)

I've spent some good holiday time around Galway and my (distant) ancestors come from Co Mayo originally.  I've been away too long - I need to come over again soon !

Thanks a Million - Galway is good and has shook many a car to bits !! Thats if you can get away from traffic !!

Incidentially one of the Porsche Panamera prototypes was tested in Connemara on the Mayo/Galway border...  I know why that area was chosen by Porsche !!

Id say they scratched their heads when they went back to Stuttgart

Aye do put it on your bucket list - Holyhead to Dublin - Port Tunnel then M50 - down the M6 to Galway - Easy to find ...!! Perfect territory for the 4x4 Octy
