instrument cluster fuses?

Featured Replies

Hi guys My instrument cluster has stopped working, I have replaced F6 fuse in the engine compartment (Version 2) but still not working.

can still drive the car and the indicators and wipers are all working, I have no speedo dash lights rev counter no ignition lights at all.

are there any other fuses I can try?

Thanks for any help

Fuse 6 in the cabin fusebox and fuse 17 in the engine bay fusebox.

Edit, forget that second one.

Fuse 6 in the car seems to be ok, I swapped them over with another fuse from the car fuse box 5A as they are the small fuse type just to check,

will make sure and go put a tester on it just to be sure, have now put a tester on both fuses and fuse 6 inside the car and fuse F6 in the engine bay are both ok

Fuse 17 in the engine bay says its the horn?

F6 in the engine bay says instrument cluster but that fuse seems to be ok as well

any ideas what to try next please guys?

.

Surely the immobiliser is part of the cluster so if the cluster has no power, the engine should stop after a few seconds...?

Might be worth removing the cluster (pretty easy) and using a multimeter to check if it has permanent/switched power. Not sure which pins I'm afraid.

I would of thought it would not run without the Instrument cluster how do they come off? I have checked the fuses that it says in the hand book not sure what to do I can drive it but no idea how much fuel is left as that's one of the things not working

Do you know if the car was built before or after May 2007?

it says 01/09/2007 1st registered

Actually, either way, pin 1 of the 36 way cluster connector should be ignition 12V (black/purple wire), pin 2 permanent 12V (red/purple wire).

The car won't run while this is disconnected; could maybe get a meter probe in the cable entry without disconnecting?

Mine starts and runs fine, surly the fuse would of blown 1st before the whole cluster

Stay calm. I was meaning the car won't run if you completely unplug the instrument cluster; which you might do to check voltages on the pins suggested. But you may be able to do the checks without disconnecting, depends what access is like into the cable entries of the connector pins.

Sorry Wino lol thanks for helping,  i,m panicking a bit as I got a knocking that comes and goes which I posted about on here as well.

so check power to ignition 12V (black/purple wire), pin 2 permanent 12V (red/purple wire).

never took one out before well not on a skoda anyways, how do they pop out please mate? if I have to unplug it will anything have to be reset?

Not sure on the physical removal, sorry.

Doubt there's any resetting needed.

If there is NO power to the cluster then the car won't start and run

Your 2007 cluster has two PCBs that have two plugs that join the the PCBs together.

The rear smaller PCB is where your immobilser is located, so if the front PCB (dials) is total dead then you should check that they still are pushed together.

  • Author

Not sure how the PCBs could come off they were working fine when I parked up, do you think a scan with VCDS might show a fault?

it could just be a poor connection

A vcds scan probably wouldn't as the rear PCB is working ok

ok thanks will take it off tomorrow and and take all the connectors off then push them back on see if that helps ( will update if it works) wish me luck, it's been a real **** day besides all of this

thanks for all the advice will let you know how i get on

pic shows a golf cluster but the skoda one has the same set up

boards just push together

oh right I thought you meant the plugs at the back of the instrument cluster not the boards themselves

Well not sure whats happening here but I went out this morning to take the cluster out and its all working as it should be now, all I can think of is that there must be a loose connection somewhere, fingers crossed it keeps working I really dont need the worry if i'm honest , I have fibromyalgia so disabled but my money has been cut with all these gov cut backs happening I can barely keep up with paying for a car, I really only use it for driving the 15 miles there and back to the main shops and mabey to collect wood now and then.

thanks for the support guys be lost without this forum at times :) Alan

Hello,
I have this problem too. Unfortunately for me, the power sometimes goes out while driving and comes back after a while. Did this problem come back to you? Don't know what was wrong?
