Drivers Seat Position

Featured Replies

Had the new car for about a month now. I've been struggling to get the drivers seat adjusted into a position where my back doesn't start to play up after an extended drive.

I found when i first got the car i had to drop the seat down which kinda kicks it back at an angle which i think is the problem with me.

I did that as my legs would hit the steering wheel getting in and out. Its like i needed to lift up the steering wheel but its already at the highest adjustment limit.

I've tried lifting the seat today, sliding back a few notches and pulled the steering wheel forward Have to see how i get on with it.

Anyone else had problems with this?

I didn't have this problem at all with the mk2 Fabia.

How tall are you? do you carry your wallet in your back pocket?

I have had a bad back for a number of years, after an eight hour

operation I have two steel rods in my back.

I found that the seat needs to be reasonably high and the seat back

just off vertical the seat back or forward so you reach the steering wheel

with slightly bent arms.

Once I get it right, I template it and ask mechanics not to adjust it if

possible.

Oh! the wallet, it can cause sciatica .....

5'9" i guess. Nothing in the back pockets! I'll give it a go again in the morning, I have lifted the seat, it does feel quite high now.

I think with moving the seat back and pulling the steering wheel forward it has in affect lifted the steering wheel some what because of the upward angle.

Managed to get out without the legs bashing into the steering wheel.

In the old position i found myself slumping in the seat after a while, bit like sitting on an old sofa where the cushions have all gone soft.

I get problems with the SI joint and i had a lower disc play up earlier in the year, that wasn't very nice. Had to lay on the floor for over a week...

Its been triggering that off again.

I'm about the same height as you and have lower back problems. I have the seat adjusted fairly high and I've been ok since I did that.

When the seats lower it feels like its tilted back more than higher but maybe I'm imagining that.

I tried it higher this morning and back a notch, still not right. Now the steering wheel blocks the view of the dials on the dash and the gear shift feels like i have to bend over to left a bit to change...

I've dropped it a bit and moved back another notch... Its a bit of stretch to get at the touch screen but doable.

I think its the first car I've had where I've struggled to get a good position. There must be one that works..

Maybe they designed it for very small people?!!

I had forgotten the adjustable steering and I have a similar car to you, 2019, 110 tsi Monte Carlo.

It does take a while to find the "sweet spot" I took a couple of photos but they don't seem to help much.

The underside of the steering wheel top just lines up with the underside of the binnicle curve.

Good luck and persevere.

I'm getting closer. Where I'm at at the moment its a bit of a stretch to depress the clutch fully but seems better on the back so far. Got a long drive next week so that will be a test.

I guess your seats will give better support than in my SE L.

I managed to get it connected to the internet yesterday, that's a first for me. Lets hope it doesn't blue screen....

I must say I always have problems with my iPhone hotspot and connecting to the Skoda WLAN

I can normally connect OK but every time I turn the car off I have to reconnect, It does not remember the connection.

I did talk to Skoda technical about this issue and was told that the Bluetooth version on the iPhone was not the same as on the one on the Skoda and this could cause problems.

What is strange is that I never have problems with the phone hands free.

I'm 6' 4" and no longer have a young flexible back, I drive with the seat fully lowered, not quite fully back. When you adjust the seat height the backrest is usually way out of position, I have to adjust it to be more upright.  Then I have no problems but I have to remember to remove items from my rear pockets else the leg aches after a while. This seems to be a Skoda 'feature' as I get the same ache in an 06 Octavia that I drive long distance at times. It doesn't occur in the Passat or Touran seats though. My other half is much shorter so she drives with the seat fully raised and backrest corresponding tilted back.

Hi @Gonzini Have a look at this thread.  My description of the driving position in my Roomster SE matches yours in your Fabia III almost word for word! (2013 Roomster & Fabia seats were the same).

Even in my Yeti I find the driving position a compromise.  I find the squab angle too steep, the steering wheel too far away, the instrument binnacle too high (I cannot set the wheel as low as I would like without blocking my view of the speedometer), and the rear-view mirror too low (I have to sit a couple of inches lower than is comfortable in order to maintain a clear view of the road ahead.  I haven't driven any other cars lately, but I certainly didn't have these problems with my old Mk 1 Berlingo.

When I come to replace my Yeti, I will insist on a test drive rather longer than half-an-hour!

I'm not alone then!

I think I've found a compromise now. I drove around 260 miles over 2 days last week and didn't cripple myself, though the lower back was still playing up. It didn't seem to make it worse.

It's just a bit of a stretch to fully depress the clutch pedal.

It's OK but still dosen't feel where I need to be be. I never had any problems with the 2013 mk2 fabia.
