Getting an EML reading from a 2001 Fabia

Featured Replies

Hello everyone! Sorry to start a first post with asking for something.

Got a Mk. 1 Fabia (1.4 petrol) and trying to get a reading for the EML that's on that will cause it to fail its MOT. Loathed to get rid of it as I spent £350 on it to cart stuff back and forth from the allotment and it's now become my day to day car and covered 10k for my money. Amazing little thing.

There's no port by the steering wheel and it looks from the literature as if I'd need Skoda equipment to be able to read it. Really loathed to take it to JC Skoda in Dundee as truthfully they'll be too expensive and I don't trust them from experience.

Does anyone have any idea on a) if there's anyone in the Tayside or Fife area that may be able to get a reading or b) if there's a way around this that I can do it myself (or at least get the EML out to pass the MOT)? It runs rough when cold (think it may be the coil pack or an injector) but apart from that it's never let me down once.

Thanks in advance - hope that I can contribute to the group in the future :-)

Sorry - should say that I don't trust them to be the cheapest from experience (I'm running on a limited budget for the car).

Pull hard on the cubby door right of steering wheel and you'll  find the diagnostic connector.

It's not in there - I think the build year must have been just before this change.

Pull harder. It won't break.

It's not in there - must have been an earlier build year. Have opened it up and it's not there.

You open it, then you pull it harder, it opens further!

Pull the lid until it goes past the usual stop and hangs down.

Of course it's in there, pull it hard enough for it to come right out and hang down to the floor.

Bet you've got lovely soft hands though.

The really cheap option is get an EML327 bluetooth blob from eBay and use Torque or similar on your smartphone to pull the codes.

Next best would be a dedicated code reader...

If there's no OBD2 port, there must at least be the hole it's supposed to be in. Possibly, it's "floating" behind the dash.

If you have to go rummaging behind the lower dash...

Thanks - will have a look at that in daylight :-)
