Leaking oil separator 1.2 TSI

Featured Replies

Hi there, my oil separator has been leaking for a while now and was wondering if anyone here has replaced one of these, I was wondering if you can just buy a gasket for it, or if its a liquid gasket or if I need to buy the entire part?

Its the item nº23 https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2011-697/1/103-103007/

I'm pretty sure that if there was a solid gasket it would be shown on the parts diagram, but it's slightly strange that there is no picture of a tube of RTV sealant next to it as there is for sump and chain cover.

The fact that it is leaking maybe suggests a problem with the PCV system, rather than a sealing fault per-se.

I'm on a phone so can't look closely at your picture, but I think if it's an RTV sealant seal you will see evidence of this at the interface?

Here is a good image of the part itself, still don't know if that is a channel to put RTV or a gasket, don't think there is evidence of RTV gasket on the outside, atleast on the bottom it wasn't clear to me, as for the PCV system there is a new breather pipe from the air filter and a new PCV valve that connects to the turbo

Just noticed on the Skoda parts website it says on the bottom, "You will also need Cylinder head cover gasket..." just answered my own question but you think resealing it won't fix the issue?

The Skodaparts image looks to my tired eyes like there's a rubber o-ring in the channel.

If that's right, I can't see why there would be sealant in addition.

I  have a feeling this is going to be educational for me.

Usually with modern engines, the crankcase pressure is arranged to be slightly lower than 1 atmosphere to remove any tendency of oil and vapour escaping, but that's not always easily achieved.

To me it looks like that gap where the gasket would be is not poking out but rather a void so the sealant makes sense, when i get the chance im going to my local vag shop and ask them about it and i'll update here

ahaha maybe this will help, if you can see by the blackest part looks like there is a groove

That still looks like a groove with a seal sitting in it. The bottom of the groove would look darker if it was empty, I think?

Looking at other images on ebay etc. I've changed my mind.

And now that I look at the ETKA page on something other than my phone, I can see the 'note' column where it says to use sealant part number D176501A1

The suffix-D part seems to be the most recent revision; what's yours?

I have a 2010 engine so it must be the C variant, are you able to send here the workshop manual for this part?

What would you do, reseal the part that I have or go for the newer D variant?

I don't have any such workshop manual.

Try resealing the one you have, I guess.
