Looking at buying my first Octavia!

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I've currently got a 2007 (mk6) Ford Fiesta (it was my first car) and I'm looking to get a new car this winter; I'm really after an estate because I do a lot of mountain biking/outdoorsy things and it's really nice to be able to easily throw a couple of bikes in the back without having to put on a rack or anything.  I don't do any city driving really and have a nice big driveway to park on so I think it'd be nice to get a bigger car like an Octavia

I've got a budget of around £3000 and I'm seeing a lot of 1.6TDI CR Mk2.5 estates with 130k-ish on the clock for around that price. Anyone know if that's a very high mileage for this car/engine or how long the 1.6 TDIs normally last? I like to work on my own car so replacing wear items won't be a big expense for me as long as the parts aren't too expensive.

I've also seen a couple of TDi CR vRS estates within my price range but with seriously high mileage (200k+) - of course I wouldn't say no to a vRS but I'm guessing I'd be wise to stay away from ones with this high a mileage?

Thanks for reading and hope I can join the Skoda club soon! 😎

I would shop by overall condition and by full main dealer service history.

If the car has a full history and looks well cared for, mileage alone isn't necessarily to be scared of. Although I would definitely exercise caution on something with north of 200k miles on it.

You've come to the right place for some pointers as I'm sure others with experience of the 1.6tdi octy will soon fill you in on what to look out for.

Whatever you decide, good luck.
