Changing from remapped vRS to a mk III monte carlo?!

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Would I been mad to change from my remapped vRS (stage 1) to the mk III monte carlo (1.2tsi 110 manual)

I test drove one and didnt completely give it the full beans and it was fairly nippy and quite fun. It was pretty quiet and comfortable and equally the handling round corners was quite tight. Would it benefit from a remap to around what the standard mk1 vrs would have been as standard or waste of time?

Its ticking a fair few boxes but I am still worried its going to feel very underpowered to mine and after about 9 years of ownership i'm very attached to the (bright yellow ha!) beast!

Please help, thanks!

Might be an idea to ask that in the Mk3 section.

There are owners there with remapped 1.2 TSI's and with suspension and brake mods.

Thanks for the reply will do!

I drove one for a couple weeks, but the auto. I think it’s honestly amazing, would not believe it’s a 1.2. Motorways and over taking feel a bit weird, but it’s not that it doesn’t perform just that it feels like it’s not going to.

The auto box is really nice, probably one of the best auto gearboxes I’ve experienced, seems to make really good use of power unlike the feeling from older autos.

I like it, think is a good car, but feels a bit soulless and lacks the rawness, I would definitely miss the torque and power from vrs and in general wouldn’t buy one, for me, for the money. Very refined but not very special. I’d probably look at other cars instead if looking to buy something new.

A mapped 1.2 tsi is still gutless compared to a mapped 1.9tdi. You will miss everything about the vrs

I bought the mk2 monte carlo 1.2 tsi selling my vrs. I missed it so much.

The petrol was a cracking little engine but it was just gutless compared to the torque of the vrs.

I missed it that much i went and bought another vrs!

People think im mad as i work in a busy garage fixing cars for a living and id rather drive the old fabia over our other newer car!

Ive been wanting remap my vrs for over 8 years but still unsure lol.

Back to your question even tho we had the mk2 it was a great car plodding work and back etc but day trips out in the peak district was boring and hard work.

On the motorway i hated it. You do get use to it but you will defo miss the torque.

On the plus side of the petrol its fun to have the revs play with and better handling !

Even a limited remap is worth it. Main questionable item is the clutch. An extra 30HP and 50lbft certainly make a difference.

Arguably it needs brakes and suspension to make a competent cross country hot hatch as well as remap.
