cd player inside the glove box problem

Featured Replies

Hi all, My first post here, I been in an ownership of a new Skoda Octavia VRS 245 in black. Loving the car so much. I been driving the car for 4500km now then suddenly the Columbus display blanked out. I tried to turn it on, read the manual but still couldn't turn on. I decided to bring the car back to agent and after 2 days of troubleshooting, they finally found out the roots of the problem that was located on the cd player thing inside the glove box.

Apparently its causing the Columbus display to not work. I was lucky they replaced this afterwards. They said that this is the first time they encountered this problem ever here in SE Asia parts of Brunei.

Anyone here have similar problem like this or encounter this ever happening?

After much reading on this forum. I found that it is called the headunit. So I checked mine and its actually an MIB2.5 unit.

That part is the main head unit (computer) for the system. The screen is just that. It's a bit like a PC and monitor.

It's not unheard of for them to fail. Luckily yours was covered under warranty but other have them fail outside of cover and usually take the opportunity to upgrade. Although the Columbus 2.5 is the top level so no space to upgrade.

Yes. I don't have CD player in mine, but the media unit failed a couple of days after I took delivery. Very embarrassed dealer and soon replaced under guarantee.  My neighbour's work colleague has a Superb, same problem.

I remembered the VW tech telling me that this unit fails on some VW models after warranty just finish. And the price is 800 pounds to replace it. Crazy...

The car is still new and I never insert a cd in it yet. I did put my sd card in slot 1 which is 1/4 filled with songs and that about it. Now i'm afraid to put anything in there.

That's not a bad price for Columbus direct from manufacturer. Mate was quoted £2500 for his Audi version before kicking off. They then 'offered' to pay half which he declined and gotnit fixed by a guy in a shed for £180.

eBay is a good place to get used units with some work required to make them work.

I checked on ebay  today, and I did found lots of them new and used. If my head unit brakes again and the warranty no longer covers it, I will look into buying one from ebay. Thanx man!
