Pointless experiements on a Fabia

Featured Replies

My throttle body was damaged and having replaced it I had a theory that it was the jamming that put on the CEL. Tried it with a dismantled throttle body the motor turned and the light came on. I tried blocking the EGR| at the manifold 3 days and the light was on so that didn't work. I am thinking of adding a fuel cut off valve to the vacuum pipe going to the EGR something like the one in the photo reduce the vacuum slightly. Does anyone know if this would make a difference?

You should reset the light each time you try something new.

Generally the ECU is looking for a value on the signal line in millivolts which falls within a preset range.

Thanks sepulchrave I do reset the light each time. TBH it drives ok with the EGR as it is and doing well over 60 MPG. Just more pointless things to do I might try the hole in the blanking plate next

If a vacuum controlled intake component puts the CEL on then generally it's a MAP sensor reading which signals the fault and you can't fake that so I doubt your fuel valve solution will have any effect.

Initial note: Your engine code should be BNM, not BMN. Confused me for a few moments there. There is a 2.0 BMN diesel engine too.

Would also ask when blanking it, did you put the blanking plate/grommet inline and bolt it up to the EGR or leave it hanging? The latter "solution" tend to cause the EGR pipe to break at the exhaust manifold end as it flaps about.

Engine code changed! No I took it apart and put the blanking plate on the exhaust manifold and bolted it together again nothing was dangling.

Good luck drilling, I have only read people doing this with BLT 1.9s. I guess start with 9mm but be prepared for 11-12mm if it still thros an EML.
