Diesel or petrol

Well you would be going through N then flashing the reverse lights & into P, then foot on brake to come through reverse again, flash reverse lights and through N to D.

What a palava, like the old days before the tech moved on.

Easiest is to use stop / start or put that off and use 'Auto hold' if it is a car with Autohold that does not put the Rear brake light on like many cars with DSG's do.

(Many drivers do not know if not if their rear brake lights are on with 'Autohold'.

Rear brakes are not on with the E-Brake.

It's easier than sitting with a foot on the brake. I think I am in the old days in that sense with my 09 Octy...

You are in the Superb MK3 section and soon a new decade.

With Autohold you come to a stop press the brake pedal and the car hold there. maybe stop / start works or not.

You can just press the accelerator and go, or touch the brake pedal and start etc.

I know, I'd like to get a superb, was just referring to my current car!

Isn't it easiest just to put it in park? That way you can take you foot off of the brakes but don't need to bother with the handbrake.

Use autohold

Neutral in traffic but foot on brake. If I am sure it's a very long wait, then I use the parking brake.

I only use P when I want to park 😂

I've just been reading about Greater Manchester going the same route, They plan on bringing in zero emissions a full 12 years sooner than planned & reducing emissions starting from 2020 to 2025. We're all doomed. https://airqualitynews.com/2019/12/19/manchester-council-announce-zero-carbon-target/

Edit: I forgot to mention being an old fart I have a free Concessionary travel pass for greater Manchester which I do use quite a lot off peak, they've decided to put a £10 charge on it from 2020 if you want to travel on the trains or trams, Bus use is not affected. I guess they'll want all the money they can get to change their diesel fleet to greener transport!.

Petrol everytime, unless you cover intergalactic mileage. There is very little reason to buy diesel these days unless you cover serious mileage (20,000+ miles annually) or tow weekly.

Automatic (twin-clutch DSG if buying VAG unfortunately) and AutoHold are also essential in a Superb.

If you have a weekend car, then by all means go manual, but for the weekly / family hack it has to be auto.

AutoHold is a revelation too, sure it keeps the brake lights on for 30 seconds at the traffic lights, but it's only our older members with sensitive eyes or those that pull-up too close to the car in front that complain.

The Bristol zero diesel story has a bit of history. The Government gave the (Labour) Council a kicking for not producing a carbon reduction plan on time. In return the Council created a plan that is completely unworkable and requires the law to be changed to implement it. Of course the Government won't change the law,  but it stops them complaining about the Council. Politics - nothing more or less.

Though I'm quietly praying they actually do it as I have official sanction from SWMBO to buy a 280TSI if they do:biggrin:.
