Mk3 Octavia Headlight Bulb Replacement

Featured Replies

Hi

Thinking of replacing my headlights with Osram Next Generation bulbs but I cant figure out which bulbs to get. Nothing in the handbook!

Seems the low beam is H7 but what is the high beam?

I presume I can just do a straight bulb switch ?

Thanks for any information

H7 for the headlights and I just put in Next Gen Osram Nightbreaker Laser and they make a massive difference.

Here they are on Amazon for only £19.45 a pair: https://amzn.to/32UY9AT

I bought them after reading that they scored best bulb 2019 in Autocar mag.

H15 for the main beam (assuming you don't have xenons or LED) but I haven't changed those yet.

Thanks Nik

I had finally worked out it was H15 for the main beam and obviously read the same Autocar best bulb article that you did  ('cos I too got Next Gen Osram H7s)

I can only find Osram Cool Blue Intense H15 and not the Next Generation. Have you found a source? Do Osram even make an H15 Next Generation?

Sam

No, they only do original or cool blue intense for H15.

I fancy the cool blue though since they also run the DRL's from the same bulb

Ah - Yes. But that is a function of the H15 design isn't it?

And I presume Cool Intense Blue is simply marketing jargon for actually white (as opposed to the brownish white of the standard bulb!)

@themanwithnoaim has recommended mtec bulbs as good replacements for H7, H8 and H15 bulbs

Be aware a facelift car has H7 as both dipped beam & main beam (according to both Osram & Philips website) compared to the H7 dipped & H15 main beam on pre facelift cars.  I've ordered a 2nd set of Philips Racing Vision H7 bulbs so I'll let you know if there are any issues when they arrive!!

I ran the MTEC H15 Super white for main beam and erm, i took them out the following day.  Yes they were very white on DRL but on full beam, honestly struggled to see they were on when driving on unlit roads.  I ended up with Osram Cool Blue Intense and they were spot on.  As for the H7 I ran the GE Electric 150% brighter as they cam out op in the tests at the time (about a year ago).

Were the cool blue, for DRL, whiter and brighter than the standard Skoda supplied bulb? I'm very happy with my Osram Nightbreaker Laser for the headlights, but I hate the yellow look to the DRL's. Main beam is ok, but could be better.

thanks

Nick

Yes , they (Osram Cool Blue Intense) were whiter as a DRL and deffo brighter as full beam.

Comparison of Philips RacingVision in dipped beam & stock bulb in main beam. Both bulbs H7. RacingVision definitely whiter.

This morning after photo taken I changed the main beam bulb too so now complete RacingVision.

Driving home tonight the difference is noticeable, but clearly not like Xenon or LED factory. But for just over £40 upgrade full H7 RacingVision 4 bulbs is worth it. PS no I don’t work for Philips!!!
