DSG eco mode for Kodiaq RS

Featured Replies

in Normal mode, under 2/3 'throttle', am finding that the car revs unnecessarily high (3500 RPM) before up-shifting when accelerating hard from standstill. prefer Eco mode's 2500 RPM up-shifts, but not the coasting function. in short: is it possible to have Eco mode DSG shift-points but without the coasting?

Don`t think so.

Gearbox is self learning. Try paddle shifting, maybe it learns when to upshift.

You're using 2/3 throttle from a standstill and finding that the car is revving high?

Two thirds throttle from a standstill is essentially telling the car you're wanting to make significant progress.

Therefore the car is holding onto the gears for longer to aid that progress. If you don't want it to rev as high, or for as long then ease of the throttle.

with 500 Nm on tap, it shouldn't have to spin like a non-turbo petrol

You're not getting all of that 500Nm until 4,000rpm, hence the car holding onto the gears...

Max engine power is available at 4000 rpm, correct.

But max torque is available between 1750 - 2500 rpm.

When driving an auto you have to be more controlled with your throttle imputs. Using large bootfuls of throttle means the gearbox will kick down more often or hang on to gears for longer as it is responding in the most efficient way it can to your inputs versus current road speed. Try a more incremental approach to your throttle inputs. Unless your really needing to get down the road in a hurry no need to boot it, even surprisingly small throttle inputs will get you along quite nicely.

Just an idea - are you sure the gear stick is on D? It is so easy to toggle between drive D and sports S.

You're using the rpm for max power...definitely agree however that using 2/3 throttle and complaining about high revs is a bit weird.

It should also be noted that the Kodiaq RS has a short first gear ratio of 3.80 (for reference, the 190PS TDI's first gear ratio is 3.40), so that could a factor into why the car shifts later than expected, given the torque figure.
