Updating Amundsen Bolero

Featured Replies

My very first posting is a simple question, I hope.  It isn't simple to me.

After a few weeks of ownership I am becoming interested in the satnav system which sends me along cart-tracks and occasionally shows incorrect speed limits, so I guess that it needs updating.

I haven't got a smart phone.

The nearest Skoda dealer is 24 miles away.

There are two SD slots on the front panel; perhaps it is the right-hand one that carries update information. I have studied the handbook and visited websites, even entered the VIN and got a 'surprising fault, ring back later' sort of reply.

Do I remove the SD card, slide the little catch to 'open' or whatever, connect it to my bench-top PC, download something from a website onto it then replace it in the satnav slot?

Does this SD card carry vital information about other things? After re-inserting the SD card does it then automatically pass on the new information to the system?

I would be grateful for any advice.

I got confused by your title as those are 2 different infotainmemt systems, but by your description you have an Amundsen unit fitted.

If you go to this link you will find the newest maps to download, but I understand there are some niggles with it.

If you look in the Guides section on this Forum there are instructions on what you have to do.

The Skoda website can be a little rubbish...

Instead, try the following:

- Browse to https://webspecial.volkswagen.de/vwinfotainment/int/en/index/downloads/maps-download#/

- Select Jetta

- Select Discover Media

- Select the maps you'd like

To remove the SD card, just press it in and it should pop out.

There is a set of instruction on the webpage but in short:

- slide the SD lock to 'unlock'

- insert it in your computer

- copy all the files off

- delete all the files on the SD card

- extract the files from the downloaded zip to the SD card

- remove the SD and slide the SD lock to 'lock'

- insert the SD card in the car

- if it's happy, you can delete the old map data from your computer

Yes ignore the skoda maps site, as they are out of date and display dual speed limits. As above the equivalent from the VW website works perfectly in a yeti and is more up to date as well.

After the Update Portal has been out of action for about a month I downloaded the " ECE 1 2020 " map earlier this week and it is working properly with only the one speed limits now.

I now know that it is an Amundsen unit.

Thanks, Langers2k, for outlining the general route to take; it worked, I think.

Some years ago I wanted Google to remember my signing-in password etc. A simple, very common request, I would have thought. All of the many internet suggestions that I tried led into a closed circle or a language foreign to me, or my screen didn't carry the options of other peoples' screens.  I never did manage that.

Perhaps one day these simple reqirements will be easier than trying to launch the Queen Mary.

I haven't mentioned the cost of pen refills and the ointment necessary.

Thanks again for the help.

I updated mine last week to the confusingly titled "ECE 1 2020 ONLY FOR 32GB CARDS". It fits and works on the 16Gb Card.

It's still rubbish.

I paid the £120 odd for Smartlink to be enabled and use Google maps - it's streets ahead, literally 🙂

How about giving us a rundown on that throwaway comment?

Fair comment.

It doesn't update with traffic information fast enough.

You have to keep adjusting the zoom level manually or it's either too far out when going slow, or too close when going fast

It offers mad routes which just dont' make sense.  An example is visiting a pal in Wanstead , London from the M4. It tries to send you through the North "circular" which is madness. Much faster round the M25 and down the M11 (or stay sat in traffic for hours on the A406 to save 30miles on a 240 mile trip).

Locally it sends you straight into traffic when there are good work arounds.

It tells you about upcoming turns about 3 times in advance, and a couple while doing it. A less "verbose" option would be great.

I've tried using it, but it really is poor when compared to Google Nav.

I suppose crap is unfair, but meant in comparison to Google nav then it's more fair.
