Canopus black alloys on Sportline

Featured Replies

The new Canopus black alloys caught my eye on the FL S3  L&K and I was thinking of getting some for my pre-FL Sportline. A rather crude mock-up (albeit using the FL from the current model). What are people's thoughts?

YUK!

As freelunch says, "your car, your choice".

I don't like them personally as they are all black but then I am of senior years. 😁 The pattern of the wheel does look good just all that black with that colour of car makes it all look drab to me.!

I think black wheels always look very aggresive and remind me of the days before alloys when steel wheels were the norm and usually painted gloss black. Back then we had to buy wheel covers that pretended to be alloys but were actually made of silver/chrome coloured plastic.

But then short back and sides hair cuts were something your parents insisted on you getting and yet today I hear parents bemoaning the fact that their kids have such haircuts. Fashion and time wait for no-one.

Glad I am not planning to change my car for a while as I don't like the look of any of the new wheel choices for the new L&K. If they haven't improved the choice by the time I do change it, I will ask to have my current Pegasus 18s swapped onto the new one.

It's a car, a lump of metal - it really doesn't matter what wheels it has surely? 😉

Cheers for the feedback - I'm in 2 minds about them. I do like the pattern and different look to the current Vega I have on, but I'm not 100% on the pure black.  Perhaps an aftermarket in a similar design and dark anthracite...

Suppose I have all of winter to think about it and mock up options as I've only just put the winter tyres on the Vega's.

Thanks :)

To me the wheels look fine.

but a bigger problem (which would put me off) is the very low profile tyre which in my experience has a detrimental affect (effect?) o the ride quality and road noise. So for this reason I personally wouldn’t have them.

thats why I stick with max 18 inch wheels on my car...

Gloss black wheels do suit the Sportline better, as the Supernovas do IMO. Though the Vegas do suit a Business Grey Sportline as the colours almost match.  I don’t see the logic in Soda fitting gloss black trim/highlights  with anthracite wheels

*If* the Suberb is a keeper then I’m going to have my Vegas painted black, when the diamond cut sections start to look grubby.

Agreed - the Quartz grey on mine also seems to suit a darker wheel better. I've found anything lighter looks too stark against the black trim finishes.

This is the first car I have thought is a keeper and once out of finance, I'll be looking at some engine mods (map, induction kit) to make it even more fun.

Yeah, I'm keeping mine – just out of warranty.

Look for a thread by @superbtte (a sleeper's journey) if you're looking for mod ideas.

Disagree :) If you look at all-black wheels from a distance they don't look interesting. But when you add a contrast (like in Supernovas / Mercedes AMG) which separates tire from rim - it is much better looking!

The same car, Canopus vs Supernova and I still like the latter much more. It just stands out!

How very rude 😄

Photo from last year 1/2 way through fitting winter wheels. 17" front and 19" rear

Sorry, it wasn't meant to be rude. Simply I am not english native speaker. Just wanted to say that IMHO there must be some kind of contrast between rim and tire to look better than "just fine" :)

I dig it, looks way better than the Supernova rims imo.

Edit: quick photoshop...suits the facelift more imo but still better than the Supernovascanopus.thumb.jpg.3eb1b01f64e871f06c2a05e19949cd62.jpg

I was just messing, no need to apologise.  👍

I'm thinking about this...I think the Business Grey looks better than the Quartz Grey with the black wheels in my opinion. Silver also looks great potentially but I don't want to go with silver.
