Columbus POI update not working

Featured Replies

Oh I'm having a right nightmare with the above. This is on my columbus MIB2.

I'm trying to use the speed camera POI files which I've got from Pocket GPS World and no matter which type I try to use (individual or an all in one file setup) nothing is working. I keep receiving an error after 4% and it tells me the update has failed and has to reboot the headunit.

I've followed the guide on the Superb page (see below), but even with following those instructions, nothing is working.

Now I've tried using the CSV file which Pocket GPS World says to use, but Skoda's POI compiler (http://mydestination.skoda-auto.com/POIs) throws a wobbler when you upload those. It happy to generate a zip when you use the GPX files.

The main issue I can see wrong is when I click on the headunit to update, it does say update available, but says 2014-10-30. Now I feel the headunit is saying no because of the date on there. I have checked through the other update files and they also have text files containing 2012 / 2013. Again, the headunit is probably going no as it may assume they're out of date.

Is anyone able to assist me on this please? I'm £19.99 out of pocket otherwise :crying:

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. It's the Skoda site at fault - it's never worked for me. Even when you have successfully converted and downloaded your files they are in fact still corrupt so it's not your fault. You have a couple of options though. A programme called POInspect0r is available for a one off fee but firstly, I would play around with a free software called POIBase to get the hang of things first. There are restrictions with the free version though e.g. a limited number of poi categories allowed and audible warnings disabled. These are to encourage you to pay for the premium version. You can merge .csv files for free on the web to reduce the number of categories. I, being a skinflint, actually use a free programme put together by a fellow member called Flumpie from the Superb forum. Details of that are in my monthly Amundsen Speed camera thread. They work for the Columbus too. Hope this helps you forward.

@bigade1 your one worked. Downloaded it, copied it across onto my sd card, popped it in and hey presto. So at least I know that I'm able to put them on. The question now why aren't the ones which I've compiled with the Skoda tool not working, as they look similar to what your one has.

The mystery continues.......

As I said - the blame lies with the Skoda portal. To be precise, one of the files that is created during the conversion process i.e. the hashes.txt file is corrupted. The created checksum values contained within it are incorrect. Also, the portal fails to convert the icon files into the required format. It's an ongoing issue which Skoda have never been bothered to fix.
