Hi. I have an '17 Octy FL 1.4 TSI DSG with the standard wheel. In the rush of ordering the car back in the spring of 2017 I made 2 mistakes - one is not ordering the ACC (luckily I've ordered the FA) but I kinda give up on retrofitting ACC as it seems that it may be too complicated...

and the other was (again) not ordering the heated steering wheel with DSG paddles . I wanted it, the dealer said that a sport wheel would be nicer, I eventually decided not to have the sport version and I ended up with the standard multifunction wheel without paddles.

 

Retrofitting a headed wheel is rather expensive as I guess I also have to change some of the buttons on the AC unit, but I miss having the paddles, mainly to use them while in D or S to temporally "put the DSG in manual mode".

 

So, anyone can tell me if a sport version / or a standard multyifunction wheel with paddles can be easily retrofitted, without changing much?

Wheel with paddles is plug and play upgrade if you have the multi function steering wheel. Heated wheel doesn’t require new HVAC controls but it does require a new wheel set of buttons, airbag, plug and wiring loom making to the BCM for this.

Thanks, will search for a non-heated wheel. Maybe the sport version with the perforated leather as I se that after 2 years and no (wedding) ring 😁  the leather is starting to be a bit too shiny.

You can easily clean the wheel you got, that is shiny, to have a nice matt finish like new. Just use som interior-cleaning with a microfiber-towel and/or a multisponge. I am a car care geek, so I know and have done this to many wheels.

 

This is not a great picture, but this is what my old cars wheel looked like after 90 000 km (it even looked better/not shiny at all irl):

 

So if you just want the matt finish instead of switching the wheel, cleaning it is MUCH cheaper.
