No Power to Rear Nearside Door

Featured Replies

Have just acquired my "new to me" 2008 VRS and it turns out the rear nearside door has no power going to it, hence no central locking or electric window.

The first thought was a wiring break on the joint but an inspection of that shows both the multiplug that goes to the pillar and wiring is absolutely fine.

This leads me to think that it is a power interuption further down the line but I can't seem to find a wiring diagram or routing diagram to see if I can trace it.  I assume it runs forward on the car, towards the glove box area but having had that out (all be it only briefly because it has been too cold and wet to work on the car this time of year!) I can't seem to see where it goes.

Does anyone know or does anyone have a diagram?

I have also removed the Columbus head unit (which is on permanent live, not switched for some reason) only to find at some point someone has exposed the wiring by removing the cloth tape that normally binds the wire bundles (I assume this is something to do with an aftermarket head unit fitment at some point in the cars life or a hands free kit that has since been removed).  I am wondering if this is related somewhere down the line.

Any ideas or guidance is always much appreciated.

There is no switched live for the Columbus or any other units on the Octavia.

It's permanent live. The car sends a message on the canbus network that the ignition has been shut down, the headunit picks that message up and then turns itself off.

Thanks for that.

Hopefully I assume this means the head unit is at fault, rather than the signal being sent from the canbus network.  The head unit being faulty would also explain some other strange things that it does - which would be fine in my case as I want to put an up to date Blue Tooth Audio / Hands Free head unit in it anyway.

But I don’t think the head unit would be related to the door power?. The control of door modules and power wouldn’t go via the bolero..

Your right, I don't think it is related either.

What concerns me is that when someone has been messing around behind the dash, they have caught the wiring for the rear door.

It's looking more and more likely that I am just going to have to trace the wires and look for damage.

An update!

Just been out to the car and the central locking is now working on the rear nearside door and I have no idea why.

What has also started happening is, when locking the car, it now makes an audible beep?

The audible locking started to happen after I pushed the button on the drivers side B Pillar (I have no idea what that is - any ideas, I haven't checked the hand book yet!).

The audible beep on lock is configurable with VCDS.  Have you used a different key?  It is set for each key.

The pillar button deactivates the interior motion sensors on the alarm.

It doesn't seem to me to relate.  I think you have an intermittent fault with power to the rear NS door.
