2010 Octavia rear wiper not working

Featured Replies

The rear wiper has stopped working and has not parked properly. It suddenly sprung back to life for a moment then stopped again. All other wipers and washers are working OK.

I've read somewhere that the rear wiper motor is a failure point on this model, mainly because of water ingress. Does this sound like the likely cause?

Would a VAGCOM diagnostics tool, or similar, be able to detect/confirm rear wiper motor failure?

Any suggestions for diagnostics and problem resolution welcome.

Summary is that on a hatch version it is likely to be screen wash fluid has damaged the motor due to leaks and on the the estate is likely due to sticking or end of life brushes in the motor.

Sounds like yours is an estate if a later model.

Almost definitely the wiper motor.

There have been occasions of failing boot catch micro-switches, making the car think the boot is unlatched or open. But then you get the on-dash warning and the boot lights being on with the boot lid shut.

Common fault, about £80-£100 for a unit. I have seen lots of people opt to remove the rear wiper and plug the fluid hole so essentially its a clean delete of the rear wiper all together.

Mine is playing up, 2008 Scout – does someone have the model/part number for the motor please. All my googling gives me different results! Thanks.

@captain uncertainDoes your wiper motor have the water jet through the wiper arm or separately through the rear tail gate?

The listings I find list the part as 1Z9 955 711 A .

Great thank you. My wiper jet is from the top of the window by the third brake light.

Yes, and therefore it is a different wiper motor to the hatch which has the washer fluid hose pass through it.

The one retro-fitted by Skoda to my face-lift estate was same part number but B at the end. I hope this rev B is more reliable.

This is what I’ve done, it looks loads better imo
