Crunch time - 3 years old in January.

Featured Replies

Don't know where the last 3 years have gone but with Tax, Service and first MOT coming up in January my Yeti is going. 6,850 on the clock 😄. I have a 1.0 litre DSG Kamiq SE L on order arriving before Christmas (currently in Emden). The on;y colour available (Metallic Black) is fortunately one that I like, even though it's a nightmare to keep clean. The deposit is covered by my equity and additional deposit allowance from Skoda and I'm paying the same that I have been doing up to now, no change, so it seemed like a bit of a no-brainer.

I had a test drive in the same spec Kamiq as the one I'm having and it felt like 'home from home'. Didn't feel underpowered as I expected it to, in fact I got the usual wheel spin a couple of times pulling out of junctiosn. I'm looking forward to  the new car.

Hoe did the drivers seat height feel compared to the Yeti? One criticism of the Kamiq in the Road Tests I have read is that the seat height is lower than the Yeti and more like a tall hatchback.

Welcome to the WLTP test era, where Eco summer tyres are fitted as standard which don't grip wet roads below about +10c

There is a thread in Technical - Tyres section on how the latest Eco Summer tyres are not really all season in the wet, as they dont like cold rain.   The comparison video shows how bad (and remember in the video he chose the best tyres, not average ones which would be worse)

Felt OK to me, but my criterion is whether I can get in and out as I can't bend my neck and back. I have the seat down as far as it will go in my Yeti and did the same before setting off in the Kamiq. Can't say I was aware of being lower overall. As I said, I just felt at home with it straight away.

Winter tyres aren't a problem for me, any sign of snow and ice and I stay put. In inclement weather the car stays in the garage. If I get caught out in a shower, then I put the de-humidifier on in the garage when I 'put it back to bed' 😁.

..I am still looking for  suitable Yeti replacement but rapidly coming to the conclusion that there isn't one! Kamiq is nice but a bit too pricey for me, and does not seem to be that "tall"..(maybe just me). Seriously considering a newer 1.2 Yeti DSG if I can find a good one. Taking mine in to local indy dealer for a service next week, will see if they have anything suitable in stock. He has access to the "motobility" sales website and they seem to have a few higher spec low mileage ones available...

At only just over 2000 miles a year, assuming correct above, why not just keep it, it should be like new!

Yes it's correct and a good part of that was done by the family using it to go on holidays.  Up until a few days ago I was saying, "I'm never going to buy another car, this is the one that'll see me out" but given that I've saved an MOT, a major service, a year's tax and got my next 2 services included while still paying the same as I have been doing up to now seemed to make the choice obvious plus I liked the Kamiq on the test drive (big digital MPH in the display in particular 😁).

p.s. Yes it is like new and will be a good buy for someone I hope.

Skoda really know how to p**s people off. If I hadn't alreay signed the contract I'd be thinking about buying anything but a Skoda just now. Obviously any 3 yr old vehicle trips all sorts of switches in the organisation and puts up a flag saying "Time to inundate this customer with mailshots, emails & telephone calls" - I've ordered one now LEAVE ME ALONE  🙄

I wonder if I'm the only one who has a very adverse reaction to being pestered?

@Expatman

It is not more like a tall hatchback, they are tall hatchbacks that have the option of lower suspension. They are not mini SUV's.

(taller and shorter than a Scala that has the option of higher suspension)

Just got another email asking me to electronically sign the finance documents. I started the process only to find that I was being asked irrelevant questions e.g. who supplies my gas and electricity. Yeah... perhaps you want to know what side I dress as well 🤪.

Guess we will have to wait until I can compare the actual seat height of the Kamiq with the Yeti. Interestingly some road test reports have mentioned the  driving height and have said that of the three offerings from the VAG stable - Seat Arona, VW T-Cross and Skoda Kamiq - that the T-Cross has the highest most commanding driving position. Not Landrover height of course but still noticeably higher than the Seat or Skoda.

We will see!

Why not stick with a Yeti?

Especially if you have no Skoda Dealer near that you can just pop into.

The reviewer with short legs and long body as he usually reminds us.

(The Scala is longer than the Kamiq.)

Those irrelevant questions were to confirm your identity on an Experian report to minimise chance of Fraud.. for you and Skoda.

It's interesting that Experian should employ such high security levels to ensure that the data they are collecting is accurate. My bank considers two part logins to be appropriate. I closed my browser after part four (1. Unique URL 2. Postcode  3. Date of Birth 4. Who do you bank with 5. Who supplies you gas - electricity) and made arrangements with the dealer for a manual signature. They offered the same explanation i.e. you're answering questions to which Experian already know the answer. That is probably true, but who my supplies my Gas and Electric was a stage too far for me.

I'm not so naive as to think that the amount of my personal data harvested by everybody and his dog is something that I can control and I recognise the validity of using that data to prevent fraud. I dislike the fact that my personal information is collected, processed and then sold on to anyone who pays whatever the price is, that's another piece of information about me that I have given away 😄.

I thought that I had developed a trusting relationship with the dealer since I'm now on my sixth Skoda, at least I liked to kid myself that was so, I do know the truth deep down.

It was suggested that I try again and when I did so, the 'irrelevant questions' had disappeared so in the end I completed the electronic process.

I'm no longer a Yeti owner, now a temporarily bewildered Kamiq owner. How on earth such as my technophobe brother-in-law would get on with it I cannot imagine. Exploring all the menu settings and options is going to keep me busy for a while 😀.
