L&K vs SE-L - differences?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I’m helping someone choose an S3 220 petrol for c. £20k, 2018 or thereabouts.

He’s keen on heated leather.  Are there any differences between an L&K and an SE-L with heated front leather optioned?

Both often have the Columbus, which he is keen on.  Does the L&K have more noise reduction / is it more refined?   Any other differences you guys can tell me about?

Many thanks!

L&K will have the Canton sound system as standard which, in my personal opinion, is awesome - and I wouldn't be without mine - it'll go louder than your ears can cope with without distortion.

Mine's a 2016 car, so may have different kit to a 2018 model, but I have auto lights & wipers, blind spot assist, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, all round sensors (no camera), KESSY, Virtual Pedal for the boot (which works well for me!), heated leather seats front and two outer rear, 3 zone climate control, and I can't remember the rest.  Mine also has 4x4 and 6spd DSG - which I know were options - I was always a manual driver, but as soon as I tried DSG...well, so silky that I shan't be going back anytime soon.

Thanks both.  This is obviously the latest brochure, but it can’t have been that different 18 months’ ago.

Many thanks.

Does anyone know if the sound deadening is any different in the L&K?  The buyer is very comfort oriented!

Many thanks guys.

I went for the 220 L&K on the basis that the standard items were better value over adding the bits to an SE L but that's always the difficulty.  Here is the spec of the L&K i bought

And attached below is a spec for an SE L Executive but 150 ps diesel.

To add I find the car very quiet, the petrol engine can hardly be heard, comes in when you give it some boots but other than that very good.  Road noise and bumps etc seems to be a factor of the surface and the tyres.  The former, it's the UK; the latter fit different tyres and see how you get on.

Some have installed additional sound deadening.  They may or may not have seen an improvement, it might be emperor's new clothes or a lot of effort for little tangible gain.

Only real way to tell is back to back test drives and this should ensure subjectivity by the potential owner is  minimised.

Scary how the prices have crept up.

I very much doubt there is any additional sound proofing on the L&K compared to an SE L.

The standard heated windscreen on the the L&K would swing it for me!

Thanks all.  Much appreciated. A well-specced SE L has been spotted....

I accept that, new, the L&K is probably the value if you want lots of kit.

Second hand, you need to accept what you can find!

Canton stereo

DCC

Led interior package (coloured led strip)

Heated windscreen

Rear heated seats

Rear climate zone

Smart light assist (£20 or £40 option)

Virtual pedal

Anthracite alloy wheels

Keyless (kessy)

Front parking sensors

Those are the main things extra as standard, I found that the l&k models tended to specced with more options than the SE L models. Mine has the towbar, flappy paddle wheel, SLA with traffic sign recognition, rear camera, and vario boot floor.

The DCC, canton stereo, heated screen and all round parking sensors were the big factors for me, and of course the led strips! 😁

When it's 6:30am and -3 degrees C and all I need to do is turn the engine on, turn on both heated front seats, turn on the front and rear heated screens and heated mirrors, then get the ice scraper out from the filler cap and scrape both front side windows, by the time that's done the windscreen is fully defrosted and I can drive away. Worth it.

I've done most parts I can get access to, and the improvement is dramatic. We have two in the family (both petrol) and my wife's is a good deal noisier than mine.

To the OP there would not be any different sound deadening between models.

Thanks again all, much appreciated.

I was looking at a 280 SEL and a 280 L & K.

All have covered the spec differences.  Can't think of anything that has been missed.

However, a major difference for me is the seats are more comfortable in the L & K. Wife and I both agreed. We had a 3 hour test drive in both.
