Petrol recirculation valve fault?

Featured Replies

I keep getting this warning light, and have done on and off for over a year. Car is running great mind you. I took it into skoda this morning, and they plugged it in to the computer. The fella said it is a "petrol recirculation valve" problem. IF if comes back on again, I should book it in (quoted

I think its a valve that returns unused fuel back to the petrol tank from the engine.

A little more info on what engine it is would be usefull.

Sounds like a problem with the N80 valve to me which runs fuel vapour from the tank back into the engine via the charcoal canister. Quite often goes wrong on the 1.4 8v especially when people overfill the tank.

Thanks for your replies!

Its a 1.4 16V fabia comfort. on a YJ 51. Can these gadgets just switch the damn light off altogether? Thanks for your help. Much appreciated!

Your light is on as it has a fault, it needs to be fixed, where abouts are you? Maybe you can get a Briskodian to read off the codes then I have something to go on.

Hi again

I am in York. The garage plugged it in today and told me this was prob the problem. They quoted

Depends on what a petrol recirculation valve is, ive not heard of a part with that exact description myself.

second time round he called it fuel recirculation valve. ..ack

Same as I'm still not 100% sure on what he is refering to.

What type of tool is this garage reading this code with? Ask them for the Fault Code NUMBERS. They text they're giving you is totally non-standard.

VW does not have any part called a "petrol recirculation valve" nor a "fuel recirculation valve". About the only thing they use the term "recirculation" in engine related faults is for the Exhaust Gas Recirculation system.

I was thinking of an EGR fault myself, especially for the 16v. And most people change the valve which isnt usually the cause.

Blimey, thanks everyone. Actually the garage I feel is a bit of a rip pff merchant. I paid a lot of money just over a yr ago for a full service (to keep the book stamped etc). On Monday this week, I had it serviced by my local garage. The bloke there, said that if the dealers had changed my plugs, filters etc a year ago, he would eat his hat...he reckons they stuff they ticked in the book as done, havent ever been done!

I didnt see what they used to get the codes but I dont trust them one bit. I will call them today and ask for the numbers. If they havent made a note of them I will ask for it to be redone, in front of me, and I will write the codes down myself!

THis is exactly what my gut feeling was, that I could spend £200 and the light will have still not gone away ARRGGHHHHH.....

Lummox, what do you mean by the EGR fault? I hate all this electronic fault light stuff..think will buy old car with frumpy engine next time..

PS, sorry. Have been on Ebay. I have a laptop, can I just buy one of the leads, and plug one end in the car, and one end in the laptop then?

Can I download softwear onto my other PC, put it on a CD and install it on the laptop for this?

I am sorely tempted. Mother and father in law have skoda too!

You can install the shareware version of VAG-COM on any PC or laptop. The registered version must be used with a nominated computer unless you buy one of Ross-Tech's latest interface leads. These contain a dongle which converts the shareware software to the fully registered version and do not restrict you to using a particular computer. So yes, you can download the software via a PC and then install onto a laptop. The differences between shareware and registered versions are here:
