My daughter needs to replace her car, what should she have?

Featured Replies

My daughter at present drives P reg 106 1.4 petrol. It has just got 12 mths mot. She is thinking about getting a newer car and cannot afford more than

Polo? Maybe thats as close to the Fabia as you'll get her?

Does she want a sporty(ish) car or is she not bothered?

Not only force her to test drive the Fabia, force her to buy one!!. Seriously, all you can do is to provide guidance on this, the Fiesta makes a sound case for it self. My only advice would be to avoid most French marques as these have not faired so well over recent years, according to J D Power anyhow.

Newer Fiestas get the thumbs up from me, nice to drive and my sisters has been faultless.

£5k could also get you a Mazda 2, its the same mechanically as the Fiesta with a slightly different spec. We only ever see them in for servicing.

If you can get her into Fabia thinking, but i can fully recommend Fiesta swmbo drives one and even the 1.275 tugs like a train!

She WILL drive test drive a Fabia, have no doubts (but not a VRS), she cannot afford sporty!! I thought about a Polo as from my signature you can see I have been a VW fan for many years. She makes murmurings about a Clio but like you am not keen on the French makes. She doesn't like Citroens so at least they are out of the equation. I am am pushing her twoards a diesel fro economy but they do tend to be rather more expensive to buy in the first place so am not sure the overall savings would be there.

Just thinking outside the 'box'

Just start calling her Nicole if she murmurs about the clio too much!

It seems there is a lot of support for the new Fiesta, she might not think the Madza 2 is 'cool' enough, JMHO.

Put her in the 75hp Fiesta diesel then back to back into the 100hp Fabia TDI and see what she thinks, maybe?

Hmmm..... I quite like the look of that Mazda! So she probably won't ha ha! At present she is enjoying driving my husbands car, my old Golf CL 1.9 tdi perhaps I should sell her that? Though my hubbie would be very upset, insists we keep it, mind have to admit its been a bl***y good car! Will try and persuade her to go on some test drives on her next day off, though as she keeps telling me its not cool to be seen test driving cars with Mam, says I ask too many awkward questions. Must be from surfing this website.

Mums are cool, they know best!

If only they would listen to me.........:owl:

Hi

I had the 1.4tdci Fiesta and moved to the Fabia vRS. The Fiesta is very noisy at anything above about 50mph compared with the Fabia. The engine is quiet for the first few thousand miles then seems to get progressively noisy. It also never managed the stated fuel economy, averaging 48mpg. Having driven all manner of Fiestas and a couple of Fabia variants, I would never go back to the Ford.

Chris

I think for the price of the diesel and the original outlay your probably better of going for a petrol anyhow.

Girls of a certain age(18-29) will ONLY drive

Renault Clio

Peugot 206

Ford Fiesta

Mini

Golf

Polo

Fiat Punto

This is why they sell so many.It is pointless talking about how they drive, reliability, engine noise.

It is down to what it looks like and the colour and their mates.

Fiesta best bet (cheaper than a polo too).Nice if she could be pursuaded to fly the flag but even if she drives a Fabia, they aren't cheap!

(my wife was a stereotype.Now drives a Fabia though:thumbup: )

My oldest (17 later this year) wants a yellow Fab vRS.....what does that say?

From what you have posted before, she is definately going to be a level headed accountant:D

She will be, but still want a yellow Fab vRS, and a Lambo too:cool:

Good man

Low insurance (group 2!) and other running costs' date=' low mileage and under 3k which leaves her some cash for handbags or shoes or whatever 24 year old girls like :D[/quote']

Sensibility and honesty from my keyboard always.

It is a very practical car for a young lady/lad/mum.

I'd go for that Seicento, great price for not a bad little car - nippyish, very cheap, ok trendy wise as the Sporting looks quite good  I know Fiats have a rep on breaking down, poor dealers on sites like this BUT (a) its cheap, (B) you don't have to go to a main dealer; and © most of the complaints are re: bigger & more expensive cars - FIAT do small cheap cars quite well.

Thanks Kentish, think its great value myself but have asked and its a thankyou but no thankyou, definately not! Now she thinks i am very sad as she didn't realise there was this site that I like to browse. Mind you she did add that for the amount of miles she now has to do commuting to work that a 1.1 is probably a too small engine. She does 60 miles round trip each day and two days of the week she does a 150 miles round trip. Her Peugeot has just passed mot so she thinks she will look around over the next few months so at least thats a start, before showing her some of the comments on here all she talked about were Clios. So thanks folks for all your contributions, keep them coming.
